My hubby works for the UP, and we'd really like to move, but he doesn't want to lose his senoirity. Is there any way he can keep the senoirity, and move? He is a fireman now, and is working up to become an engineer.

  1. mt hopper is exactly right.  Get promoted where he's at, then head for a seniority district that is short of engineers.  He may get some help from my 360 blog, which contains info he can use since he is studying for promotion, so check it out.

  2. Sorry honey, it won't happen.

Unless his district is abandoned, then--maybeeeeeeee, they'll dovetail seniority.  This is the problem with antiquated union rules.

Take heart, UP is on a major recruting drive for crews, once he's set up as engineer, move to another district, and he'll quickly be ahead of all the others moving up the system.

The sooner he moves the better.
