This is an update from the posts I made earlier today.

UPDATE: I talked to my family members and they are getting rid of BOTH dogs now. I talked to my Uncle and he told me he's getting rid of the Bichon and Beagle because they're pooping and peeing all over the house. The Bichon is still not trained.

I told him before he left that I would take them and get them treated at a vet and train them myself and keep them because I didn't want neither of them to go to a shelter. My cousin also told me that the Beagle started biting out of frustration. When I took care of him sometimes when they went out of town, he would never do that with me because I treated him like a member of the family. So did my mom and grandparents and aunt. Now, from what i've heard he's starting to bite and I think I should take control and put him back in place before the worse happens. I also plan to train and socialize both of them.

Was I doing the right thing at the same time ?

  1. i had a poodle once; no one ever took the time to train him. i was 9 at the time and felt that it was not my responsibility to train him. as the years went by the dog continued to go to the bathroom on the floor. my dad would get pissed and yell at the dog which scared him. by the age 12 my dad was done he was threatning to get rid of the dog so i told him i would keep him and i promised to train him.... well i was young and didnt know what i was doing. i really loved him and was just saying anything possible to keep him. a year ago we moved and we could not take the dog, so he went to my grandmothers ; and one day i went to visit looking for my dog. well he was gone she had given him to my uncle who has kids and could walk him and train him; he plays with my cousins now and i still get to see him. i feel really bad as i think back now thinking that i kept him when i really was not able to care for him. i mean i was 12 years old... & most 12 year olds are not ready to care for such a big responsibility. im not sure how old you are but i would think it over its a big decesion :D if you feel you are ready to care for 2 dogs then kudos to you (: good luck with everything hope this helps

  2. Good for you.  If you want the dogs and have the means to care for them, go for it.It's going to be a project but it can be done.  A couple tips.

Bichons are notorious for being hard to house break.  Know that going in so if that dog takes longer, you'll know why.

Crate train so you don't go insane with this project.  I have trained two dogs this way and it is invaluable. You have two, so you need all the help you can get.

    This is a helpful website:

Also, try tying the dogs on leashes to your waist when you are home so you can keep an eye on both of them all the time and watch them for the need to go potty.  This is a useful little trick.

Get some Urine-off.  It's only sold by vets and online but it's invaluable for training - it was a Godsend with my dogs during training.

Good luck - this is a good thing you are doing.

  3. what ever u think is best

  4. I think you are doing the right thing. Please be careful if you have small children because the beagle could bite one of them. Just be patient give them both lots of attention and show them that you wont abandon them. I also hope that your uncle wont get another dog. Your very kind to care about these two dogs. I would do exactly what you are doing.Best of luck and a future update would be nice.
