My sister-in-law has just rung in a terrible state because her eyesight has suddenly deteriorated and she is terrified she is going to wake up blind tomorrow morning. She lives quite some distance from me and is alone. Her MS has had a bad relapse and I am astounded at the lack of help she has received today... her eyesight has already gone in one eye and today her other eye just lost most of its sight...her MS nurse has booked her an appointment for Tuesday but she is terrified that she will not have any sight at all tomorrow morning and will not even be able to locate her phone to tell me - and I don't know what to do if she rings and is blind. I don't know what help there is or who to turn to... please help if you can - she is so scared and so upset... she has been dealing with this for many years but the speed of deterioration over the last couple of days has shocked her. I am out of my depth and don't know who to ring or what to do. This is in UK incase there are other options available in other countries..

  1. Aww! I can see how this would be distressing for you, as well as her. I can't comment on her symptoms, but I can say she needs someone with her now. Is there any way at all that you can be with her? Either that or someone closer like a friend or another relative, but she needs someone with her 24/7 just in case the worst happens. She deserves better care than she's been given so far, and I really really hope she gets it. Good luck x*x

  2. My advice is to phone social services who have out of hours staff to sleep over with someone in a terrible mess, I use those words.

next if this does not work then ask the SS for someone to see if the person is OK, they have to do this for life is threatened..

next if this fails and it is a weekend and you are not supposed to be ill at weekends in the UK, I found this out, then she can be taken into a nursing home temporary.

If all else fails let me know by email and i will pull out stops.  Will think of you both in prayer.  [www.healers2006.co.uk]

  3. Why didn't the MS Nurse arrange something if your sister-in-law lives alone?. My Mother -in law had MS & when things got really bad we called an Ambulance, she is after all under the care of the NHS & with a Bank Holiday weekend coming I can see why you are fretful. Have you got an out of hours number for the MS Nurse? or even her G.P.
