  1. You individual pig might have an allergy, or maybe it wasn't the clementines at all. Perhaps it bit its cheek or scratched or got infected some other way. You should see a vet or you're just going to have to wait it out.

  2. I'm sorry but all you CAN do is take it to the vet. I will not be rude and say that if you don't it will die. Maybe it isn't even the fruit. Does she have ruffled hair? Scabs? Looks for mites that's what mine died of. Maybe she was allergic. I'm not sure but will have to take her to the vet. Until you can try giving her applesauce or any soft foods. You should call now and make an appointment. If you can't afford it go to a SPCA sometimes they will treat your pets if you can't afford it.

  3. I am amazed that he got a sore that quickly. First of all, to clear things up... oranges are really important and SAFE for a guinea pig...they need that vitamin C. They CAN eat it raw.

To prevent sores, dry off the messy piggies face after he eats raw orange.

Feed him oranges maybe twice a week at most, and feed 1/4 orange at a time. That is all. Make sure the juice isnt all over his face after he eats.

    --------------------------------------...

I dont know about clemintines as i have never fed mine those, but  we feed oranges at work to our piggies and i feed them to mine at home and there is NEVER an issue.

    --------------------------------------...

okay answer to your question...YES he should see a vet. A mouth abcess or sore is unusual...it could be from the fruit or another cause. A vet can determine this best, and do your research and make sure they vet has experience with small pets...some vets have been known to misdiagnose when they are not familiar with a species....they are human after all.

    --------------------------------------...

until then, what kind of sore is this? is it bubbly and look liked its filled with puss or liquid? or is it simply an open wound?

if its bubbly...thats bad. he needs a vet...i have no advice for that.

if it is simply an open wound or abrasion....

-Does the wound enter  the mouth?

if no, treat the open wound with triple antibiotic ointment, in the yellow squeeze tube- (neomycin and polymyxin B sulfate and bacitracin zinc) perfectly safe. treat as needed until it clears up.

if yes, treat the area outside of the mouth with the TAO. Do not put the antibiotic ointment in the mouth.

if you arent going to see a vet and the pig has the sore IN his mouth, keep his foods dry, always provide fresh water. but lay off of the vitamin C drops and oranges until the sore in his mouth clears up. hay is great, plain oats are great, and make sure he has feed avaliable that has Vitamin C in it.

    hope this helps!

  4. If your animal can't eat, you need to take it to a vet.

    End of.

You want the poor thing to starve to death?

You clearly know the answer despite contridicting yourself ('I dont know if I should wait , or take it to the vet/I cant afford a vet') so stop wasting time, find a shelter or humane sociaty vet, and get a discount or mediplan for the d**n thing.

  5. As pointed out, obviously you know your pet needs a vet.

If you know it needs care, and if you don't give it the proper attention, it's animal cruelty.

  6. sorry theres nothing u can do...

ghopefully it will get better, i know the vet is expensive, my familys policy on pets, is that if they get sick..tough S**t...

  7. i feed my piggie oranges and clementines a couple times a week and shes not bothered by it. yours might be having some kind of reaction. take her to the vet asap.

  8. GO TO THE VET!!

  9. Please Take it to the vet. The vet will understand, or even better take it to an emergency animal hospital. They are almost always cheaper than the vet!

  10. The sore was probably caused by the acid in the fruit. Fruit should be a treat for piggies, not an everyday food. Veggies such as romaine, red leaf are good options.

You need to force feed until you can take her to a vet.

If you can, call you vet and ask for critical care. if the do not have it, then crush up pellets and mix with water to make a lose paste thin enough to go through an ml syringe. (ask vet for syringe, explain your situation)

http://www.oxbowhay.com/link.sp?page=Cri... directions to mix etc on the website, but they will not sell it to you.

  11. Take it to a vet, call before going and tell them that you cannot cover the cost now, and tell them that it is urgent and you do not want her to die, that is all you can do. Grinding up the food, adding water to soften it like baby food and give it to her with an eye dropper may or may not work. Do it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care what time it is there, go to a 24 hour emergency vet hospital no matter how far away the closest one is!

  12. Why the h**l do you have a pet but cant afford vet bills. It needs to go to the vet, most vets will work out a payment plan with you.

If not for like $10 you can surrender it to a guinea pig rescue or humane society where they will give it treatment.
