So I made a bucket, filled it with aquarium water, added gravel, a fake plant, a air-stone bubbler and 2 hiding places (A rock and a tea cup).

The bucket is about 5 gallons more or less. Are they going to be okay in that?

  1. Yea, untill you get them re-homed. Also, depending on the species of cichlid, they might be able to live in your community tank. If it is a dwarf cichlid they may fit in nicley, but if they are a larger variety, get them re-homed fast, b4 they get huge!!!

  2. Lynn,

I just gave you an answer to the linked question.  I think what you'll want to do is name the fish species that you have first really.  For now, maybe like just tonight, the buckets should work.  I'm very surprised that with a 65 gallon footprint, these new fish are doing that.  That is why knowing the species, like dream said, is very important.  The water parameters may not be to the cichlid's liking.  Maybe they are Africans, and you have more of South American type waters, or maybe they are  South Americans, and you have more African type waters.  It's hard to say without knowing what fish you have and what your water conditions are too.

As I also mentioned, adding in decor may be the answer you need all togeather.  It just may be a case where there isn't enough boundries in there, and your cichlids see the community fish too much.  If you re-arrange the tank now, and add in more decor, you are likely to find this solves the problem completely.

Many cichlids, SA, CA, or African can actually co-exist in numerous community tanks, and the size of yours, they well should be able to.

If you add in more rocks, this should as well please the Yellow lab.  It very much sounds like you have two males, and these are Africans too.  You'll want to look into your water conditions.  Africans prefer to have a higher PH and hardness.  This may be part of the issue.

The Red one, is most likely a Red Zebra, which grows a bit bigger and usually is a pretty nasty fish actually.  That fish will probably do better on it's own then with the others, but the Yellow Lab should be able to be worked in.

  3. it sounds like they will do fine in the bucket make sure to put a lid on the bucket. you can try to use sealent to fix your 30 gal. tank unless its to severe. just make sure if there in the bucket for more than a few days to do a water change since you dont have a filter to filter out the ammonia and nitrates

  4. yes?

  5. Yes. Goodluck!!!!

  6. They should be fine in there as long as they were getting along in the tank. also if the temp goes down too low it might stress them and lower their resistance to diseases including ICK. Another thing I would do is to put a cover over the bucket to keep them from jumping out and also calm them down, if it is dark they will not be as active.
