  1. Forensic Pathology is the use of scientific techniques to investigate a particular problem.  The modern term use of 'forensic' has been coined to be hand-in-hand with crime fighting, but is not always the case.

Overall, pathology is the study of abnormality.  Forensic pathology is where you look at what doesn't belong, and relate it to the situation.  For example, on a body, there is bruise marks.  It's not supposed to be there, therefore something happened to cause it.  What caused it?  An object struck the person to cause it etc.

I don't know of pictures that could describe it without being graphic....

Major forensic pathology cases happen all the time, but they don't really get into the limelight much compared to the past.  The first documentated case of forensic dentistry was back a whiles when some chap put his wife through a tree mulcher by the side of a frozen lake during a blizzard.  They were able to find a few fragments and connect it with her dental history to convict him of the crime.

To become a forensic pathologist, in the morgue, you require a medical degree and certification, ie, a general practitioner, and then you need more training and experience before you can become one.  A friend of mine doing medicine enquired about it, and was  told that he would be lucky to be 35 and come out as a qualified forensic coronor..... it's a long long road.
