URGENT HELP!!! with my African Cichlid.

Question

i was doing a water change to my aquarium when I saw my African Cichlid laying on the rocks. It was breathing but not moving much. Right now it started to swim around like crazy and almost jumping out of the water and then layed their again but still breathing. (the water was and is clean. What is it? and how can I help it?

Did you check your amonia levels, nitrate levels, and ph balance?

I apologize for the two really stupid and dumb answers you got.  It's a shame that if people don't have a f-clue, they don't just keep their opinion to themselves.

I disagree about the parasite.  This sounds much more like something wrong with your water chemistry.  Fish will try to jump out of the tank for quite a few issues, but most of it is related to their enviroment.  If it's not right, they'll try to leave that area.

Have you checked your water chemistry lately?  Though this may not be the case, I'm inclined to first think you have a new tank set up and your nitrogen cycle may not be completed.  Check into your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings first.

Secondly, how old is the tank, and the fish?  What are the other populations?  What is the species?  I'd be happy to help if I could get some more information here.

It sounds like symptoms of a parasite. Some times you can cure the fish of them if you catch it early on, but unfortunatly I think your fish is too far gone to save.

   To make sure there is nothing you can do, you could also call a local pet store. Usually there are people there that are knoledgable about what may be causing your fish to act strangely, and they may also have some suggestions.

whats a cichild is that like a child or something? i think you killed it by not knowing the species!!!!! what kinda owner are you not knowing the species of what ever you have i mean what was it a living child?
