Question:

URGENT!!! Solution to gray fuzz growing at base of indoor plants in windowsill?

I noticed with my White Spruce tree when I got back from my holidays that it had gray fuzz growing at the base of the plant. I've scraped it off with a popsicle stick, completely changed the soil, and it's still grown back. Then, upon looking at my other plants in my northern windowsill, they had the same thing, but around their base. The others are an Easter Cactus and an African Violet. Please, are there any solutions to helping my plants. I really don't want them to die, so I need answers before it's too late!

  1. Add some pebbles to the bottom of your pots and more sand to the soil. Give them more sun and less frequent watering.

    Good luck.

  2. That gray stuff . . is MOLD!

You have too much moisture where you have them. This could be due to excessive condensation because the room is kept too cold, or overwatering. You should allow time between waterings so the soil dries out a little.

If it's not overwatering, what you need is more dry air, possibly warm air, in the area. Try

    - move them to a warmer room, or keep the temp above 68 degrees in the room

    - opening a window

    - running a fan nearby

    - dehumidifier

    - watering them less
