About two days ago I asked a question on here telling how my computer was acting crazy and getting pop-ups with the blocker turned on and going slow and sometimes just shutting off. Well I got two answers back that said to install AVG and Spybot, so I did that and I've run the full scans and spybot shows the viruses it has found but when I choose the option to try to delete them it says it can't because I need to run the scan under the administrator account, but I was under the admin acct! I even double checked and it is on admin. Also for the second time I tried to open internet explorer and they just kept popping up over and over as fast as it could go about 50 popped up before i had to just shut it down. I dont know what else to do this computer has a virus and the programs that I have that everyone says are good, are finding the viruses but can't get rid of them! I need to know what to do before my computer completely crashes...please help!

  1. When you start avg or spybot, right click the icon.  On the context menu click "run as administrator"  then it should work (if you have an administrator account).  Or you can turn off "user account control" in the control panel and run these programs as usual.  (again this is if you have an administrator account.)

This assuming you are running vista.

  2. You could try booting into safe mode and trying your scan, but I suspect it won't work.  (Safe mode is tapping the F8 key as the computer boots up, and choose Safe Mode.)

At this point, I think you're looking at reinstalling your operating system and applications.  The only thing to do is make sure your data is backed up.

The infections have corrupted your system.  If you can afford it, you could try taking your computer to a pro, but I still suspect the solution is a reinstall.

And next time, don't wait for an infection to try to install security.  The point is to avoid getting to this state.
