URGENT question about italy?

Question

am going to Italy tomorrow, with my mum and dad. I am 16, and we are using big travel rucksacks instead of suitcases due to travelling about. First we are flying from England to Pisa, where we are going to go to the leaning tower, and staying at our hotel, next day we will be getting on the train and going to Rome, where we will go to the vatican city, coloseum, and go on some bus tours, we will be in Rome for 3days, after Rome we will be going on train to Pompei where we are going to go to see the ruins, we will be there for one day (i think) the next morning we will be travelling on train to Vada, the last stop we are going to make to relax on the beaches, and in the pools and stuff, for 3days.

Is there any food in particular I cant go to Italy WITHOUT trying? because of corse we will be going to restaurants every night.

Whats the weather like at the moment in Italy and when the forecast says it will be hot.. WILL IT? i NEED a tan thankyou!! Continuing on the edited bit...

OMFG i am so jealous of you! 2 weeks ago I came home from Italy where i spent an entire month with my cousin and his family. Vada is ugh...my love. So peaceful and cute. The center of Vada is this adorable park and at night time their is music and festivals and OH you NEED to check out the yogurteria!!!! i think their is only one but its right across from the park right by a gelateria. My friend Calo would take me everyday(we stayed there 3 days) for breakfeast. You have to try the yogurt with NUTELLA! ugh..just so good. And the beach is so nice, but try going early cause it gets crowded. Oh and many nude people which was quite surprising to me. And the African men on the beach get quite annoying to when they try to sell u sunglasses, purses, oh god the list goes on and on.

Im sorry im rambeling but i just miss it so much and u will have an awesome time! im quite jealous to say the least especially since u said Vada! hahah

The weather will be very hot, even if there is an odd thunderstorm..you will need plenty of sun protection, particularly between 11am and 3pm and yes, you will get a tan!!  I don't think you'll see much, if any, rain and it'll be short lived if you do.  You'll also need water with you at all times!!  You'll love the food..definately you need to go to the small ice cream shops and try all the different flavours that you can; and the small coffee bars and of course, the pasta and pizzas..if you stay away from eating around the main tourist places and go off the beaten tracks a bit, you'll find some wonderful places to eat.  Try to avoid places that seem specially equipped for tourists..e.g. everything in english.  And you should be fine around the language..they are well equipped for tourists..plenty of signs etc. in english and plenty of people speaking it though a few phrases is nice and always appreciated..grazie (thank you), Hi! First of all, Italians are very friendly and gentle people, and most speak quite good English, although around Naples maybe not so good .... but as Neopolitans are the most charming of a charming race, it doesn't really matter. But Bon Giorno, Buena Sera, (Good day, good evening) , Grazie (thank you) are very useful phrases, especially if you use them with a smile.

While the people in the country are generally lovely, there are petty criminals, like pickpockets. Don't get into a lift with any strangers, and keep you hand over your belt bag and other valuables.

Unless you're allergic, try the seafood. And absolutely try the salads, and fruit. The desserts are a bit heavy and stodgy in the heat, I'd avoid those every day.

It will be hot, it's in the thirties celsius now. But you can always check the weather online.

When it rains in Italy, it comes down in heavy bursts. Bring a cheap rainjacket. You might have some rain, but I doubt you'll get very much.

Oh, and bring an umbrella and hat to Pompeii. Why? Because the sun on the stones makes it very hot indeed.

Of Rome, I loved the ancient ruins and the Colosseum, they were great. Buy your ticket for the Colosseum up at the Roman Forum ticket place, you'll skip the queue. I also enjoyed wandering oer the seven hills. However, the Vatican creeped me out, I didn't like it at all. If you want to see the priceless art collection and the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, you need to start queuing at six in the morning, because the queue gets very long very quickly, and you'd have to wait in the strong mid-morning sun.

I can't add any more to the advice given already, but, just a hint.

I assume you will be going into the Vatican Church which is amazing, on the left-hand side about 3/4 of the way down is an enormous painting of a Pope with his bare foot on the World (showing the dominance of Roman Catholicism).  If you look carefully, you will see a thorn in that foot.  It represents England and King Henry VIII who was the Pope's veritable "thorn in the flesh".  You can take flash photos in the Church.  Don't forget the Trevi Fountain and make a wish.

By the way, when it says "hot" it means very hot!  Should you find it a bit much, as we did in Verona and Venice last month, a good way to cool down is to go window shopping inside some expensive shops (they have air-conditioning!)

when in italy is hot, is very hot!

well, food to eat:

pizza napoli, pizza diavola, pizza ai 4 formaggi, pizza 4 stagioni, lasagnr, pasta al pesto, pasta carbonara, pasta al ragu, pasta alla puttanesca, pasta algio olio e peperoncino (oil, garlic and pepper), riso coi funghi (with mushroom), riso allo zafferano.

Most of the italian food youve had before just tastes ten times better in Italy. Definantly go to a gelateria for dessert. I was in Italy about a year ago and when i was there it was HOTT. And dont worry about a tan, Im italian and i get pretty dark but I left lookin like an indian. I met alot of people who speak english so you should be fine with that.

Ok, I live in Pisa and now There's sun ..I think tomorrow too, (even this summer it's a little bit more cold than last years) So You have to use always suntan lotion, for protection.

By the way you have to take something more heavy to wear fo the evening.

For the food...well, In pisa you must try Caciucco (it's a fish soup...it's made in Livorno, but i Think there is also In the restaurants of Pisa), Torta coi bischeri (A special cake), in Rome there are Saltimbocca alla Romana (meat), La Porchetta (meat) and Pasta alla carbonara (pasta very good) .

In the south Italy You must try the cakes.. il Babà , Strufoli, Cassata, Cannoli, Mustaccioli...

And obviously...Pizza pasta and ice cream!

By the way, the food in Italy is all good..You can't wrong.

Yes, lots of italian people are friendly and the most of us can speak english, don't worry. But It could be pretty if you say Buongiorno (good morning), buonasera (good evening) Ciao (hello), Grazie (thank you) Prego (You are welcome), Il conto, per favore (the bill please), Scusa (excuse me), Non parlo italiano (I can't speak english)...

Hello there. I just got back from Italy about 3 weeks ago. We went to Pompeii, and it was truly, truly hot. I would recommend you bring an umbrella with you, you won't regret it! There is nearly no shade. At pompeii, make sure you see the tile mosaic of the dog. Also, the theater there was pretty neat.

In Rome, we went on a walking tour. We saw the colosseum, the trevi fountain, the ruins of the old roma. There were all worth it. It was a bit tiring, but the city is gorgeous. Unfortunately, my family didn't get to go to this gellateria, but one of our guides told us that the best gellato in Rome was near the Trevie fountain. She said that the best gellato is the stuff that isn't piled up really high (you'll see a lot of this). She said the best stuff is normally kept covered and will be the stuff that is in season.

The second day we were in Rome we took a taxi to the Vatican. We got there at about 10 or 11 and we randomly came across a tour guide who was from the states and spoke extremely clear english (it's amazing to hear such well spoken english than that of the italian english). She took us through the Sistine Chapel and the museum. It was truly amazing! There is so much history, and I would really recommend getting a guide so that you may fully experience it. Then my family on our own saw St. Peter's Cathedral and, if you're curious, you can go under St. Peter's to see some of the pope's graves. This is really neat because at the end you can see where St. Peter's bodies remains are supposedly buried.

We also went to this cute little restaurant in Rome called Ciao Bella. It was quite descent.

For lunch after we went to the vatican we walked a couple of blocks away and ate at a whole in the wall pizza place. It was the best pizza I had in Italy for two weeks. Look for places where locals go. AND, if you have the opportunity, try the bufala mozzerella cheese. I know in the states we don't have this. So, it was enjoyable.

Bring your own water to Pompeii and to most of the places in Italy. Water was very expensive and hotels ridiculously price sodas.
