Q: From 1960 to 1998, GDP per person grew by a factor of 2.5 in the United States and by a factor of 10 in Korea. Which of the following best explains why Korea experienced faster growth than the United States?

1- The population of Korea increased at a faster rate than that of the United States.

2- Prices in Korea increased much more rapidly than in the United States.

3-At the start of the comparison, 1960, Korea was much poorer than the United States.

4- Korea protected domestic companies by making international trade illegal.

I think answer2 is right but I'm not sure.

  1. 3 is the best answer. Since they were a poorer country, they would have more room to grow.

It is definitely not 1, that would hurt per capita GDP. It's not 2, an increase in prices would be a result of prosperity, not the cause of it. scenario 4 would hurt GDP since it would restrict trade.

  2. Ugh, because the population is larger, more people are breeding over in Korea, just a guess.

  3. 2 might be true if Korea experienced higher inflation than in US and there is given nominal GDP instead of real GDP.

    3 - Is true for 100%.

    1 and 2 are false.

So I whould choose "3" as right answer.
