Hi, I'm in the US Air Force and I'm engaged to a lovely Canadian - what is the process of her coming down to the US?

Are immigration matters easier for members of the military?

Does it matter if we get married in Canada as opposed to the US?

  1. 1) The process is the same, once married you can file I-130 for her or if you so wish you can file an I-129F for her now as an engaged couple. She would enter the U.S. once she has her visa and would have 90 days to be married and she would file the AOS package (I-485, G-325A, I-765, I-131) and you file I-864.

    2) It is no easier or harder for those for members of the military. The only benefit so to speak, is that if you are deployed overseas, then you *wife* can get expedited naturalization.

    3) It makes no difference, however if you get married in Canada, then filing for a K-1 (I-129F) is pointless. You would just get married in Canada and then file the I-130.
