Question:

US Airways Partners & Connecting Flights?

So I have a holiday (booked through Expedia) of my own coming up and I'm flying with US Airways with a connecting flight each way. Expedia simply says both my flights are by US Airways, but after checking my flight details on their official website, it says that my connecting flights are "operated" by other companies.

One is PSA Airlines, the other is Piedmont Airlines.

I read on here that connecting flights run by the same airline means you only have to collect your luggage once you arrive at your final destination. I tried to find out if these airlines are in partenership/alliance with US Airways but was unable to find out.

Can anyone here help answer my question as to whether I will or won't have to worry about collecting my luggage on my connecting flights.

  1. You have nothing to worry about. Just pick your bags up at the final destination.

Piedmont and PSA operate flights on behalf of US Airways. The flights are operated as if you are actually on US Airways. You check in at the US Airways terminal and depart from a US Airways gate. The bags are transferred as if you were on US Airways. The experience is the same except that those flights are on regional jets or propeller aircraft.

This arrangement is very common among airlines.

The only exception is if you are flying into the US from a foreign country. In that case, you have to claim your bags at the inbound connecting city to clear customs. If you're on domestic flights, then don't worry about it.

  2. They will check your luggage all the way through - They are considered interline partner airlines. Usually whenever you have just 1 ticket number issued on all these airlines they have baggage agreements and you would still get frequent flyer mileage on US Air.

What ever city your flight lands in from England, you will have to claim your bags to go through customs and then re-check them back in, but regardless of how many other flights after you leave your initial stop they will be checked through to your final destination
