I am an American Citizen and live in Cairo, Egypt. Next year i will be in my 4th year of High School Arabic. I do not believe that i am proficent enough to pass any standarized test that would be thrown at me but I speak enough to have a "head start" if i was to be placed in an Arabic class after taking the DLAB.

Therefore, I was wondering if it is possible to get a clause in my conract that garunteed me to learn arabic at the Def. Institute in Monterey.

  1. yes

  2. first you have to qualify via Line scores to take the DLAB.  then you have to pass the DLAB with a high enough score to qualify for a Cat IV language.  THEN there has to be a slot open at DLI.

more than one person I know has gotten X language IN their contract, only to show up to POM and be told.. nope sorry, you will be taking Y language instead.

  3. Yes, it can be in your contract. It was in mine.
