  1. My husbands contract is for 4 years.

3 years and 17 days are active duty, the rest is reserves.

Talk to a recruiter. Its different for everyone.

You can sign up for as many years as you want!

  2. Mine was 4 years

  3. Steve is correct it depends on MOS but keep in mind any contract is an 8 yr obligation. if you do four active you do four inactive ready reserves which means they can call you back during that time.  If you do six active duty you will have two IRR.

  4. The length of your contract ultimately depends on your MOS.  Airborne has no factor in the length of your enlistment.  Combat arms typically have shorter contracts while others, such as Signal Corps, have longer contracts due to the length of schooling they put you through.

  5. I am airborne and I enlisted for three years 17 days active duty, four years reserve and my Training took about seven months. All in all I enlisted for about eight years of military service. That was six years ago. I have re-upped since my first enlistment.

There is a such thing as a fifteen month enlistment but it isn't available to paratroopers.

  6. All contracts are 8 years.  But they all specify different active, reserve and inactive times.

You can get 2 years active and 6 years inactive.  Or you can get 4 years active and 4 years reserve.  You and your recruiter will need to decide on what is right for you.

But when you sign, and everytime you sign, understand that it is for 8 years.  That is true for all contracts with any branch of the DOD.

  7. You're in until they kill you or for the duration, whichever comes first!
