Question:

US History SAT II score?

OK so I just saw my score, a 670. I'm not sure what to think of this. I think it's good since I left a few blank since my AP US History teacher didn't teach us some of it and I took the test my sophomore year.

Is this a good score? Will it ruin my chances at getting into top tier schools like Boston College, NYU, Brandeis, and even lower Ivy League is what I'm aiming for like Brown/Cornell. The "lowest" school I'm looking into is American U.

I've got a 4.7 cumulative gpa, take all honors/AP classes, bunch of extracurriculars, great recommendations, and a 30 on the ACT.

I don't plan on taking this test again and I still have yet to take the Math one which I'm not worried about since I scored highest in that on the ACT, but could I still get into those schools with a 670 on the history SAT?

  1. For schools like Boston College, NYU, Brandeis, 670 is well within the acceptable range.  Sounds like you should get in relatively easily to these schools.  Other excellent schools at this level you should look at are Colgate, Lafayette, Holy Cross, and Bucknell.  These latter four are 1/3 the size of BC and have better student-teacher ratios but are ranked similarly academically.  NYU is huge at 20,000 students.

  2. i think its alright, especially with your other stuff.

  3. The best places to check are the college's websites. If you're truly the "elite-type," you might want to retake that test or take another test with the help of a review book to give you the little extra boost.

How do your other scores compare to this one? If you have above 700 on the others, you may want to focus on and perfect those subject areas instead.
