Question:

US Immigrant - Resident card

my son recently came to the US on an approved Immigrant Visa. they put a stamp on his passport letting us know until when the visa is valid. are we also going to receive an actual resident card in the mail? or is the visa on his passport good enough? i wanted to know because i'm not sure if it's a very good idea to bring his passport everytime i need to prove his identity. let me know please!!

  1. You should also get a "green card" as well. You will need to contact the USCIS to find out why it has not been received as yet

    What kind of visa does he have?

    There are several kinds of visa: visitor, student, business, medical emergencies and so on. Getting a visa doesn't guarantee you'll get a green card, they are different documents.

    About having to prove his identity: unless you are going to do some paper work for which you must present an id you shouldn't need to carry it with you. In any case, it is always a good idea to make photocopies of all these documents and keep them in a safe place at home, in case of an emergency they can be used as a provisional id and will become very useful if you need to replace a lost document.
