what exactly is that?

  1. dep usually means dependent. I'm not sure what you are referring to other than that.

  2. Usually if a person does not fit the weight requirements you are put on the DEP, or if you are 17 you go to Basic during the summer and then AIT when you graduate, thus the DEP. The recruiter puts you on the DEP because you don;t qualify right away because of a reason.

There is a weekend program that will give you a taste of what basic will be like, if your recruiter signs you up for it.

  3. DEP is Delayed Entry Program.

Virtually every enlistee goes into DEP as it allows the military time to find a boot camp slot open for that person.

    Why is a person DEPped?

    1. They need a slot for bootcamp

    2. They need to attain a minimum in something (age, education, medical release etc). I was DEPped for 340+ days as I signed for the Marines at 17. I had to have my parents signature and that DEP time gave me a chance to turn 18, graduate and get to my boot camp date.

I used that opportunity to exercise more, learn the fundamentals of M16 shooting (taught by my recruiters) and learn more about what I was getting into.

  4. DEP is the Delayed Entry Program. When you first go up to MEPS to enlist you will automatically enlist into your services DEP... not into the actual service (when you take the oath a 2nd time at MEPS before you ship out for boot camp is when you swear into your actual armed service).

The DEP preps you for boot camp by keeping you in touch with you recruiter, networking you with other poolees who are going into the same service that you are, and by giving you a chance to work out (Marine DEP's run IT sessions at least once a month).

  5. death

  6. Delayed Entry Program?  It's not really mandatory, but it should be.  It better prepares poolies for boot camp.  Nothing further.

What is it?  Basically, it's for future military personnel who're waiting on a space for boot camp.  Or, kids who aren't done with High School yet.

Most contracts have 8 years to them, 4 active and 4 inactive.  The time in the DEP counts towards the Inactive Reserve Time.

Talking to a Recruiter isn't going to make you join.  If it's just curiosity, He/She will be happy to answer these questions better than I.
