Question:

US Marshals on Airplanes?

Are there really undercover marshals on every commercial flight now? If they're undercover, how do we know they're there? I'm going to be taking my first flight soon and I have this irrational fear of 9/11 all over again. So, back to the question. Are we really protected in the air?

  1. They may not be on EVERY flight, but that's the great thing about it, if noone knows they are much less likely to try anything like that again.  Also, the screening before getting on a plane if much more extensive now.  Enjoy the flight!!

  2. Some pilots are armed now too, so don't worry.  I wish they all were, but not just yet.

  3. I think that security procedures have improved on flights since 911 & I can say that I am comfortable travelling.

  4. no, they are not on EVERY flight, it would take way to much manpower to put a Marshal on every flight.

You will never know if there is one aboard (unless someone  does something illegal) or not.

Reminds me of a sign posted in a merchants store..

"Warning, owner sleeps here with loaded guns and attack dogs four nights a week, you guess which four.

The govt uses the same philosophy .....There ARE Marshals

aboard many flights, you just will never know which ones....

granted you are never 100% safe, however, the odds that the flight you are on will be effected by terrorists are astronomical.

You have better odds at winning the Lottery.

Go on you flight and enjoy the journey, your fears, while real to you are really unrealistic.

  5. Fear of another 911, with you involved, is more than irrational.

    Thats PARANOID.

And no, there isn't a marshal on every flight.

  6. if you're that paranoid, maybe you should just drive.

  7. i think that the only ppl that really know if there are marshalls on flights are the marshalls themselves and the government.  Also, airport security has improved 20 times since 9/11. Unfortunatly, just like dangerous intersections, it takes someone to get hurt for a stoplight to be put up. This is what happened with airport security in a way lol.  You shouldn't worry.  Enjoy the flight :)

  8. No, they are not on every flight and the are not US Marshalls but Federal Air Marshalls(FAM) trained specifically for combating a hostile takedown of an aircraft.

Many commercial pilots are indeed armed but not all as previously stated.

Then there are passengers that are armed to include: FBI, CIA, Secret Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Local Law Enforcement and these which are no joke: US Dept of Agriculture, US Postal Inspector,  Security for Senate House Services Committee (that was a new one) and my favorite California State Insurance Board Members(but they can only fly within the confines of the State of CA) !

FAA requires these non-FAM's to watch a video and take a test so the can be authorized to carry a weapon.

You would be suprised at how many weapons are actually on an aircraft at times.
