US Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team loses to Brazil by 1-3 in an ICC match
The United States Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team had a match with their Brazilian counter parts on March 7, Wednesday.
The contest between the two sides was hosted by the Egyptian city of Cairo. The match was part of the Intercontinental Cup (ICC) that is currently taking place in Egypt.
The competition between the two sides went on for four long sets at the end of which the Brazilians were able to end up on the winning side. The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-15, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-23.
The head coach of the US sitting volleyball team, Bill Hamiter, shared his views in the following manner at the press conference held after the match had reached its close, “We played well, but in the end we needed a few more aggressive swings to put Brazil
away in the third and fourth sets when we held two-point leads when the set was on the line. The guys did a superb job in executing our game plan to give ourselves a chance to win.”
Eric Duda, an American player, expressed himself by giving the following comments, “We put up a good fight but didn’t get the outcome we wanted. We have good momentum going into tomorrow’s important matches.”
Duda was able to register the highest number of points for his team and keep the pressure on for the Brazilians by scoring a total of 21 points. These were accomplished by pulling off 16 kills, two blocks as well as two aces. Duda was helped by his team
mate Dan Regan, who has able to make his presence felt by adding a total of 10 points of his own based on six kills, three blocks and a service ace.
Despite the fact that the US team lost the match, they are still in the running for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. This is because the US sitting volleyball team is ranked eighth in the world. On the other hand, the Brazilian squad had already qualified
for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
The US Men's Sitting Volleyball Team qualified for the Paralympics way back in the year 2004 and they would be eagerly looking for another chance to make it into the London 2012 Paralympics.
