US Open 2010: Albert Montanes, Gasquet Richard and Nishikori Kei breeze into the next round
The Australian tennis player, Carsten Ball lost his second round clash of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 at the hands of his Spanish tennis foe, Albert Montanes who is seeded number twenty one at the Flushing Meadows. The final match score was 6-4, 6-3, and 6-1.
As a result of this loss, Samantha Stosur is the only contender from Australia, who is left at the United States Open singles contest in New York.
The Flushing Meadows is facing its hottest summer this season, however, Carsten refused to blame the sizzling heat, as one of the reasons of his upsetting demise.
“It is equally hot for everyone out there at the Flushing Meadows. It is not the story of any one player so there is no point in putting the blame of heat. People who have surpassed the first round clashes have faced the same heat and still managed to win under the sun. The heat in fact helps my game in playing more aggressively however the only cause of my defeat in today’s match was that I didn’t play up to the mark,” said Ball after the match.
Albert Montanes, on the other hand, is enjoying his best ever year, as he got the better of the Swiss tennis ace, Roger Federer earlier this season in May, and has also improved his rankings into top twenty five for the very first occasion in his career.
While commenting on Albert’s game, he said, “He definitely played better than me in our today’s clash. In spite of the fact that I started off the clash in an aggressive manner, however, he didn’t allow me to take charge of the game. He won the first set and it’s always hard to once again come back in the game. However, the way I played today has made me think that I have to work really hard in order to improve my game.”
As a result of Carsten’s early exit, there is no player left at the United States Open men’s competition for the very first time in the last thirty two years.
The only Australian from the women’s side, Stosur will take on Sara Errani from Italy in her next round match at the United States Open tennis tournament on Saturday.
In another action on Thursday, the French tennis player Richard Gasquet claimed a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 stunning victory over the sixth seeded Russian, Nikolay Davydenko in New York.
Currently ranked number thirty eight in the world, Gasquet has reached the third round of the United States Open tennis tournament.
He was sidelined for more than two months previous season after his positive results for cocaine. The Frenchman is a former top ten tennis contender, who is once again looking good to return to his lost form. Previously this season, he triumphed in Nice for his first crown after a period of three years.
Kei Nishikori, a Japanese qualifier also managed to upset the eleventh seeded Marin Cilic in a five-set epic clash that concluded in a time period of over four hours at the Flushing Meadows. The final match score was 5-7, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1.
He made his way into the fourth round of the United States Open tennis tournament back in 2009 and registered his name as the first Japanese player to do so since 1937.
Cilic on the other hand, reached the quarters back in 2009, however, couldn’t handle the situation this time and lost in the end.
Kei will play his next round match of the United States Open tennis championship on Saturday, which is going to be his fifth clash at the Flushing Meadows, including a total of three qualifying battles he triumphed last week.
