US Open 2010: Andy Murray crashes out
The British tennis player, Andy Murray was taken out of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 by the twenty fifth seeded, Stanislas Wawrinka, in a total of four sets on Sunday. The final match score was 6-7 (3-7) 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 6-3.
The fourth seeded Scott served for a lead of two set at one point, however, fortunes shifted dramatically as inconsistent form and injury issues saw both players take and lose the initiative. However, Wawrinka prevailed in the end to book his place in the fourth round of the United States Open tennis tournament in New York.
The Swiss as a result of this victory will next take on the 20th seeded American, Sam Querrey in the final sixteen at the Flushing Meadows.
Murray after the match commented, “He performed better than me. However, we both had chances throughout the match; he had an opportunity to win the opening set but didn’t take it. Similarly, I was provided a chance during the second set but couldn’t grab it and struggled from there onwards. I didn’t feel hundred percent fit in my today’s match and that was probably one of the reasons why I didn’t manage to win in spite of the fact that I tried to bounce back but failed in the end”.
Stanislas came into yesterday’s clash as a heavy underdog versus the fourth seeded opponent, Andy Murray who was predicted by many as one of the favourites to win his career first Grand Slam title this year in New York.
However, after a time period of three hours and fifty-six minutes at the Louis Armstrong stadium, Murray looked extremely disappointed as he was knocked down by Wawrinka in a highly unexpected manner.
The Swiss right from the start of the yesterday’s battle played attackingly and gave a tough time to the top ranked Brit on the court. Wawrinka, after the match said, "I think I played quite well till the end. I am quite satisfied with the way I fought today against a top seed. My aggressive style of game did the trick for me and I am extremely glad to make it into the fourth round of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010. Actually, I started playing more aggressively after the first set of the match and took full advantage of Murray’s injury and made him run all around the court”.
In other action at Flushing Meadows, the American tennis player, John Isner was defeated by Mikhail Youzhny from Russia in the third round of the United States Open tennis tournament in a total of four sets on Sunday. The final match score was 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (5), 6-4.
At the grass court Grand Slam tournament back in June, John Isner won an epic five set historic match in the first round of the competition against Nicolas Mahut in a time period of eleven hours and five minutes. However, he couldn’t repeat his magical performance at the Flushing Meadows on Sunday.
“My legs didn’t support me well enough in my today’s match and I was having some problems during my serve and ground strokes”, said Isner after the match. He committed a total of sixty-one unforced errors, twenty five more than Mikhail, who has made his way into the fourth round in New York on the very first occasion since he was a semi finalist back in 2006.
John Isner on the other hand, has never surpassed the fourth round at a major event so far in his career.
Mikhail Youzhny as a result of this victory will next face, the forty-one ranked, Tommy Robredo from Spain in the round four of the United States Open tennis tournament in New York. Tommy’s previous two opponents retired during the clash, including Michael Llodra at Flushing Meadows on Sunday.
