US Open 2010: Andy Murray ousted Dustin Brown
The Scottish tennis player, Andy Murray brushed aside his Jamaican tennis foe, Dustin Brown to make his way into the third round of the United States Open tennis tournament on Friday.
The top ranked Brit, smartly handled the Jamaican’s volleys, drop shots as well as heavy serving to claim a three setter victory in New York. The final match score was 7-5 6-3 6-0.
It was yet another wonderful exhibition of talent from Murray in gusty conditions at the Flushing Meadows. As a result of this victory, the Scott will next take on the twenty fifth seeded Swiss, Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round of the United States Open tennis tournament. Stanislas reached round three after defeating Juan Ignacio Chela in a total of three sets. The final match score was 7-5 6-3 6-4.
The twenty three year old Andy after the match said, “I had never faced him before, so it was quite interesting as the match started. He went straight for his shots and was actually smashing fun shots. He said, "I had some idea of what is going to come in today’s match. I have been told by many that Brown likes to put on a little bit of a show beforehand therefore it was no surprise to me and I am glad that I won the match in the end. I started off the game quite well and didn’t give away too many chances. He has a really quick service action so I took time to read his game. However, I never lost focus and played solid throughout the match.”
Currently ranked number 123 in the world by the Association of tennis professionals, Dustin Brown has already registered his name in the pages of history, as the first player from Jamaica since 1974 to reach the second round of the Grand Slam tournament.
The match started after a twenty minute delay as a result of rain on the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Brown looked quite impressive during the initial stages of the match with his big serving and heavy ground strokes. However, the Scott didn’t lose his calm and secured his opening break point at 5-4; however Dustin prevented it with a huge first serve and shouted in amusement.
The number one Brit however managed to grab the first set in the end with a backhand winner down the line. Brown from there onwards lost his focus and Murray took full advantage of the situation and took charge right from the start of the second set on Friday. The Jamaican however, once again bounced back into the match by winning three straight games however Murray didn’t lose his concentration and kept on playing well to grab the second set in the end.
A regulation volley and a double fault kept the Jamaican tennis ace, Dustin Brown at the back foot during the start of the third set. Murray on the other hand advances 5-0 with the help of  asweltering back hand winner and made no mistake after wards to confirm his victory in a time period of one hour and twenty four minutes.
"It is no surprise to me after being taken down by Murray. I am obviously not at all upset and this is the reason why I played well during the opening set as well. During the next two sets, Murray started getting more comfortable and came back well in the end. This was our very first career meeting. I knew him only from watching his game on the television prior to this match. Therefore, I was not expecting too much form today’s clash. All I was trying throughout the match was to play my natural game and make sure that I remain in the match till the end. Another good thing about today’s match was that I didn’t feel the pressure at all,” said Dustin Brown after his second round defeat at the U.S Open 2010 in New York.
