US Open 2010: Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova advance into the next round
The second-ranked tennis player, Caroline Wozniacki comfortably defeated her unseeded foe, Chang Kai-Chen from Taiwan in her second round clash of United States Open tennis tournament 2010 in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-0 6-0. The Danish tennis star concluded the match in a time period of just forty seven minutes at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, and reached the third round of the US Open 2010 in New York.
Caroline who is seeded number one at the Flushing Meadows on the very first occasion in her career didn’t even have to work hard, firing just a total of seven winners in the match as Chang was completely out of her form, and thus committed a total of twenty six unforced errors.
It was Caroline’s second professional life double bagel win. She dismissed Edina Gallovits from Romania in the opening round of the Pilot Pen tennis tournament at New Heaven back in 2009.
As a result of this victory, Caroline will next meet another Chinese Taipei opponent, Chan Yung-Jan at the Flushing Meadows in New York. The US Open top seed is 2-0 versus Chan, one victory going to a total of three sets.
While commenting on her next match, Wozniacki said, "We both have played against each other on a couple of occasions in the juniors. She is a year older than me; however we know each other since long. She is hitting the ball really hard over the last few months and takes full advantage of her opponent’s weakness on the court. She also is good at making her opponent run all around the net. However, I am still feeling quite confident and strong, and I know I can beat anyone at the moment considering my recent form. I will try my level best and won’t give up till the end. Moreover, I am not the kind of player who gives away points that easily on the court, which is one of my strengths beyond any doubt.”
The 20-year-old Dane has now succeeded in a total of ten consecutive clashes, five at the Rogers Cup women’s tennis tournament in Montreal, three at the Pilot Pen tennis competition in New Heaven, and the remaining two here in New York. She is just a single victory away from levelling the lengthiest streak of her professional life, as she won five in New Heaven and six at the Flushing meadows back in 2009.
"I am really glad with the way I am playing over the last few months; it is really encouraging and highly motivating. Playing at Flushing Meadows is always special for me, and I am once again happy to be here in New York and playing in my full form. Everything is just so perfect here. I am not looking any deeper for the moment, as I am just trying to concentrate on my match,” said Caroline after the victory.
The right-handed Caroline is one of the two contenders who can grab the number one spot from Serena Williams after the US Open tournament. If Caroline or former top-ranked Jelena Jankovic manages to capture the title at the Flushing Meadows, they will snatch the world number one spot from the American.
In another action on Thursday, the Russian tennis sensation, Maria Sharapova also reached the third round of the United States Open tennis tournament with a brief win over Iveta Benesova from the Czech Republic. The final match score was 6-1, 6-2.
The fourteen-seeded Sharapova is definitely looking for her second United States Open trophy and fourth overall in the major championships. As a result of this victory, Sharapova will next meet the 18-year-old Trice Capra from the United States of America at the Flushing Meadows.
