US Open 2010: Djokovic, Clement and Blake breeze into the second round
The third seeded Serbian tennis player from the men’s side Novak Djokovic won his Tuesday’s match of the United States Open tennis tournament after beating Viktor Troicki in a total of five sets in New York. The final match score was 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
“He destroyed my game in the start. He played better than me for most of the time in our today’s match beyond any measure of speculations,” Djokovic said of Viktor after the match.
After being down in the second and third set of the match against Troicki, the 2008 hard court Australian Open winner battled back strongly in his next two sets of the match in New York.
“He was actually looking to come back and luckily he did well to do so after being down and out in two sets in a row. Off course, the way he came back in the match and went on to eventually win it in the end speaks high of the class and talent of the Serbian tennis player,” said Victor after the match.
Troicki fired a total of twenty three aces during his yesterday’s clash at the Flushing Meadows. In capturing the second and third sets, he smashed nearly seventy one percent of his serves in and grabbed eighty seven percent of those points.
“I never saw him serving that well in his previous clashes. However, I didn’t give up and kept on trying and was constantly looking for the opportunities,” Djokovic further added.
In another clash on Tuesday, Arnaud Clement did well to upset the sixteenth seeded tennis player from the men’s side, Marcos Baghdatis in the first round of the United States Open tennis tournament. The final match score was 6-3, 2-6, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. Their match concluded in a time period of almost three and a half hours under the sun.
Currently ranked number sixty eight in the world, Clement is a former top ten tennis contender who was also a finalist at the hard court Australian Open tennis tournament back in 2001. However, he had not defeated any player ranked in the top twenty ATP list at a major event in last eight years.
Baghdatis on the other hand was a runner up at the Australian Open tennis championship back in 2006 and was ranked number eight that season by the Association of Tennis Professionals. However, he has never made it past the round two at the United States Open so far in his career.
In another match on Tuesday, the thirty year old tennis player from the United States of America James Blake reached the second round of the United States Open tennis tournament after defeating Kristof Vliegen from Belgium in a three setter clash. The final match score was 6-3, 6-2, and 6-4.
James had not lost in the opening round at the Flushing Meadows since his debut back in 1999. After the match he commented, “I am really happy to win today’s match and hopefully do well in the upcoming clashes of the United States Open tennis tournament as well.”
In the doubles match, last year’s winner, Leander Paes and third seeded Lukas Dlouhy were upset in the first round of the United States Open tennis tournament by Filip Polasek and Martin Damm in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-4. The Slovak-Czech pair had not contested together since making their way in the round of sixteen at the grass court Grand Slam tournament earlier this month in London.
Damm captured the United States Open title back in 2006 along with Paes and also made his way into the final, about seventeen years ago along with Karel Novacek.
Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg also reached the next round of the United States Open tennis tournament with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Albert Montanes and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
