US Open 2010: High time for Andy Roddick to capture his second major title

Ever since the professional tennis player from the United States of America, Andy Roddick turned professional back in 2000, the Americans all over the world have been waiting to proclaim the Texas resident, as the next Andre Agassi or Pete Sampras.
However, contrary to everyone’s expectations, the American in his ten complete years as a professional has not yet reached the level of Pete Sampras or Agassi.
He has hosted Saturday Night Live and has married a supermodel. The right handed Roddick has also captured a Grand Slam title as well. However, is he one of the America’s greatest ever tennis players? Certainly NOT!
The former top ranked American from the men’s side has so far failed to capture his second major title of his career since winning his US Open trophy back in 2003.
However, there is no need to fear for the fans of the twenty seven year old Andy Roddick. Given below are five reasons why this season’s United States Open tennis tournament is where Andy can grab his major title of the career.
1. Roddick is at last healthy
For the last two months, the American has been struggling as a result of bad health and illness as it turned out be a minor case of mono.
While it is not exactly the rare bacterial infection, it does clarify why the agile sportsmen has been finding it hard and felt tired and exhausted during the entire summer hard court season.
With a proper dose of medicines as prescribed by the doctor and some rest, Andy Roddick is all set to play at the Flushing Meadows, starting from Monday.
2. He has captured a title there before
Andy's one and only Grand Slam title came back in 2003 at the United States Open tennis tournament. He is obviously aware of the conditions in the city of New York and knows well how to triumph under the sun at Flushing Meadows. That has to provide the American some sort of home-surface advantage as well.
3. He is in the same draw with Roger Federer
Having a player who has captured the most major trophies in your draw may look a little unfortunate; however one has to consider the positive side of it.
Other than the American’s 2003 victory, Roddick has reached into a total of four other major finals and has been knocked down by the Swiss tennis maestro, Roger Federer each time.
This season, the only time both of them could face each other will be in the semifinal round of the tournament. Therefore, if Andy manages to surpass the big man, Roger Federer, the trophy will be his once and for all.
4. The last year’s winner is out
The 2009 United States Open winner, Juan Martin Del Potro has pulled out from the tournament as a result of his wrist injury back in May.
With Del Potro out, the only player in the event who has captured the title since Andy’s 2003 success is the twenty nine year old Roger Federer. With Roger not having a perfect time on the tour over the last few months, this is an ideal time for the American tennis ace, Andy Roddick to step up and claim the trophy.
5. No time left for the American
Andy Roddick is going to turn twenty eight this Monday; the best playing days of the American are surely far behind him.
He recently made his way back into the top ten ATP world rankings after falling out on the very first occasion in four years.
Without an impressive performance at the Flushing Meadows, Andy Roddick is likely to further drop down in the world rankings by ATP.
If he does not manage to win a title this year at the United States Open tennis tournament, who knows for how long the American stays in the professional game of tennis? So expect him to retire after this trophy like it could be his final one.
Therefore, it is certainly the best time to prove his doubters wrong with a title victory this season at the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 in New York.
