US Open 2010: Highlights from day three
The professional tennis player, Peter Luczak won his first round match of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 after defeating Sergiy Stakhovsky from Ukraine in a total of four sets on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-7 (8-10), 7-5, 6-4, 6-2.
The rising tennis star from Ukraine Sergiy Stakhovsky, who earlier got the better of Victorian at the Pilot Pen tennis tournament in New Heaven, couldn’t manage to reach the second round.
Contesting under the watchful eyes of Davis Cup skipper, John Fitzgerald, and Todd Woodbridge, his coach, Peter played quite well against the World number thirty-six and easily made his way into the next round at Flushing Meadows.
Peter led 4-1 and 30-love during the second set of the match on Wednesday. Peter in the end claimed victory after a time period of three hours and forty-five minutes at Flushing Meadows.
After the match he said, “The conditions out there were extremely tough and I had to give my hundred percent to win today’s match. The heat throughout the match bothered me a great deal although I don’t mind playing in the heat and I am quite used to of such conditions however today I don’t know why but I didn’t find it easy for sure”.
In other action on Wednesday, Dustin Brown from Jamaica also won his first round match of the United States Open tennis tournament after thrashing Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-4 7-6 (6) 7-5. The Jamaican has registered his first victory at Flushing Meadows in straight sets on Wednesday.
While commenting on the heat, Brown said, “Being Jamaican, temperature is not a problem for me at all. Although, the temperature was extremely hot today and it was really tough to manage, however, I am glad that I fought well till the end and recorded my first ever Grand Slam victory in New York”.
Ryan Harrison, a qualifier from the United States of America defeated his fifteenth seeded foe, Ivan Ljubicic, from Croatia. The final match score was 6-3 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-4. The American after the match said, “I have played against him in Indian Wells so I was already familiar of his game and style. I am completely aware of the fact that he serves quite well, however, he at times relies on his opponent to commit mistakes and so I did all my homework prior to my match and applied aggressive technique right from the start of the yesterday’s clash”.
The seventh seed, Tomas Berdych, from Czech Republic was dismissed by his French opponent, Michael Llodra, in a total of three sets. The final match score was 7-6 (3) 6-4 6-4.
In the women’s competition, Virginie Razzano kicked out Marion Bartoli, the thirteen seeded player, in a total of two sets on Wednesday. The final match score was 7-5 6-4. The Serbian tennis star, Ana Ivanovic, also managed to beat Zheng Jie, from China. Whereas, Mandy Minella ousted the World number thirty-two, Tsvetana Pironkova, from Bulgaria in a two setter clash on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-4 6-0.
The top ranked Indian, Sania Mirza also crashed out of the United States Open tennis tournament. She was defeated by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia in the second round of the women’s single match. The right-handed Mirza was hammered down by her Russian foe, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, in a total of two sets. The final match score was 2-6, 4-6.
The Russian dominated the match right from the start and managed to outlast Mirza in a time period of one hour and twenty-four minutes.
