US Open 2010: John Isner and David Nalbandian out of the tournament
The American tennis player, John Isner’s United States Open campaign ended in the round three at the Flushing Meadows on Sunday when he was knocked down by Mikhail Youzhny in a total of four sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Isner, earlier at Wimbledon this summer set his name in the history by winning a marathon match in the first round of the grass court Grand Slam tournament against Nicolas Mahut. The match concluded after a total of three complete days.
While commenting on his Sunday’s match, Isner said, “I am not the quickest of the contenders here in New York. My body didn’t support me well throughout the match as well and I didn’t feel physically fit on the court. Moreover, my preparation prior to the US Open was also not satisfactory so probably that has also added a great deal in my early loss at the Flushing Meadows.”
The 6-foot-9 American was defeated on Sunday despite hitting a total of thirty three aces at a speed of around 144 mph. However, Isner’s greatest problem was a total of sixty one unforced errors against Youzhny, who made his way into the round four in New York for the very first time after a period of four years.
John has never surpassed the fourth round at a major championship, got broken on four occasions in the first game of the clash, twice in the next set and once during the fourth one.
Isner while commenting on Mikhail’s game after the match said, “He definitely played better than me and was good in all departments of the game without any question. So full credit to him as he deserved the victory. He stayed on the court and simply outclassed me.”
Youzhny as a result of this victory, will next face the world number 41, Tommy Robredo from Spain in the next round of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 in New York. Robredo’s previous two opponents withdrew from the battle, including Michael Llodra.
In other action on Sunday, the eight seeded tennis contender, Fernando Verdasco defeated David Nalbandian in a total of four sets in New York. The final match score was 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Verdasco as a result of this victory has reached the round of sixteen at a major championship on the third occasion this season. He faced just a single break point on his serve in a total of three sets he grabbed.
The Argentinean tennis player, David Nalbandian was participating in his very first major competition since the hard court Australian Open tournament back in 2009 due to a couple of injuries.
In the women’s section, the French Open winner, Francesca Schiavone triumphed in straight sets for the fourth clash in a row, defeating her 20th seeded opponent, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to reach the quarter final round of the United States Open tennis tournament in New York. The final match score was 6-3, 6-0.
Pavlyuchenkova, who required some medical treatment on her arm, was in the round four at a major event for the first time in her career. The nineteen year old tennis star from Russia had a total of four double-faults and twenty nine unforced errors.
The right handed Anastasia said her shoulder started to hurt at the Cincinnati Masters last month, where she was dismissed by Maria Sharapova in the semi final round of the tournament. She missed New Heaven in order to rest her body and arm prior to the final major of the season.
However, the arm had been bothering Pavlyuchenkova and it badly affected her game during the fourth round clash in New York. She, while talking about her injury after the match, said that the pain had in fact spread to her elbow. However, Anastasia is hopeful that it will recover soon.
