US Open 2010: John Isner and Sam Querrey advance while Harrison is ousted
The eighteen-ranked American tennis player, John Isner won his second round match of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010, after brushing aside his Swiss tennis opponent, Marco Chiudinelli in a total of four sets on Friday. The final match score was 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4.
For John, this is the first Grand Slam event he has participated since Wimbledon back in June, when he blasted a record one hundred and thirteen aces during his three days marathon match against Nicolas Mahut at the All England Club. He did well in the end to knock down Nicolas Mahut in a total of five sets. However, the America now wants to move on and does not want to be only known for that marathon clash at Wimbledon.
“I don’t want the people to acknowledge me with that match only. Rather, I want to perform well at major events so that people recognize me because of my game and class,” said the 6-foot-9 John after concluding with a total of twenty-four aces against the world number 63, Chiudinelli on Friday.
The American can match his best major run if he manages to oust the twelfth-ranked Mikhail Youzhny in his third round of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 in New York.
Another local qualifier, Ryan Harrison lost his yesterday’s battle against the Ukrainian tennis player Sergiy Stakhovsky in a five-setter clash in New York. The final match score was 6-3, 5-7, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
“My ultimate target is to reach the top-ten world rankings by the Association of tennis professionals; therefore I don’t think that a single match is going to make any difference in the end. It is actually the experience of contesting in such events that basically is going to assist me in achieving my goal,” said Ryan after his yesterday’s loss at the Flushing Meadows.
This was the second major championship of Ryan’s promising career and the first one at which the American triumphed in a clash and what a win it was, an upset over his fifteen-seeded opponent, Ivan Ljubicic.
In another action on Friday, Sam Querrey toppled his Spanish tennis foe, Marcel Granollers in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-3, and 6-4. Off the fifteen local players from the men’s side in the main draw, only four are left now at the US Open 2010 namely, John Isner, Mardy Fish, Sam Querrey and wild card entrant James Blake. Mardy and Blake will play their third round clashes at the Flushing Meadows on Saturday.
“Hopefully, it will continue on and Blake as well as Fish along with other American contenders will keep advancing into the next round at the Flushing Meadows,” said Sam Querrey who will next take on the fourth-seeded Scott Andy Murray in the next round of the United States Open tennis tournament. Murray was also a finalist at the US Open back in 2008.
In some other matches, the top-seeded Rafael Nadal got the better of Denis Istomin in straight sets. Andy defeated Dustin Brown in a three-setter clash in New York. The final match score was 7-5, 6-3, and 6-0. Fernando Verdasco, David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez also won their respective matches on Friday. The only seeded player to depart on Friday was the world number 29, Philipp Kohlschreiber, who was hammered down by Gilles Simon in a total of five sets. The final match score was 4-6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Simon as a result of this victory will next take on the top-seeded Spaniard, Rafael Nadal in his next match of the United States Open tennis tournament in New York.
In the women’s side, the fourth-seeded Venus William eased aside Mandy Minella, a qualifier from of Luxembourg in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-1.
Williams, as a result of this victory, will next face the sixteen-ranked Shahar Peer, who got past Flavia Pennetta in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4.
