US Open 2010: Preview of third day matches
The United States Open tennis tournament 2010 will feature a couple of exciting matches on the third day of the competition from both the Men as well as the Women’s side at the Flushing Meadows in New York.
Let us throw some light on few of the exciting clashes of the day three to be contested in New York.
1. Ana Ivanovic versus Jie Zheng
Jie Zheng from China and Ana Ivanovic from Serbia will play their second round match of the United States Open tennis tournament on Wednesday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Both of them have faced each other on a total of three occasions so far in their career with Jie winning the last two back in 2008 at the grass court Grand Slam tournament as well as in Beijing.
Last season, Zheng reached the third round of the United States Open tennis tournament where she was knocked down by Nadia Petrova. This season, Jie made it all the way to the semi final round at the hard court Australian open tennis tournament where she, at last, was knocked down by Justine Henin. The player from China proved herself to be a strong competitor on the hard surfaces beyond any doubt.
In the Rogers Cup women’s tennis tournament, Zheng was defeated in the quarters by Svetlana Kuznetsova, after thrashing out Elena Dementieva in her previous clash. Therefore, Jie will definitely come into this clash all set to beat Ana who has had a decent hard court summer this year.
2. Janko Tipsarevic versus Andy Roddick
It is always delightful to watch Janko play against a top ranked player as the top seeds look to bring out the best in the Serbian.
Both of them will this time meet at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on the third day of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 in New York.
Tipsarevic has been facing some injury issues over the last few weeks where as Andy has also recently recovered from mononucleosis.
They have met each other on a total of two occasions so far in their career on the grounds of the grass court Grand Slam tournament with Janko upsetting Andy in the second round back in 2008 and the American getting the better of the Serbian tennis player in the round one back in 2006.
Everyone still remembers what a clash Tipsarevic had against the Swiss tennis player, Roger Federer back in 2008 at the hard court Australian Open tennis tournament, taking the twenty nine year old tennis master to five long sets before Roger at last pulled it out.
Therefore, this match is not going to be an easy one for either of the two and is surely going to provide some thrilling excitement to the tennis fans all over the world.
3. Gisela Dulko versus Victoria Azarenka
Gisela, a professional tennis player from Argentina will take on Victoria from Belarus on the Grand Stand court today. Both of them have previously played against each other on a total of four occasions in their career, each triumphing twice.
Dulko succeeded most recently at the clay court French Open tennis tournament this season.
Victoria made her way into the second round of the United States Open tennis tournament after hammering down Monica Niculescu from Romania in her opening round clash in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-0, 5-7, 6-1.
Gisela Dulko on the other hand dismissed Angelique Kerber from Germany in a two setter opening round match at the Flushing Meadows. The final match score was 6-3, 6-1.
The Argentinean tennis star has not performed up to the mark on the hard court so far this season.
