US Open 2010: Roger Federer cruises into the third round
The second-seeded Roger Federer has made his way into the third round of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 after dismissing Andreas Beck in the second round of the competition on Thursday. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.
The 29-year-old Swiss tennis maestro has proved his doubters wrong by winning the Pilot Pen tennis competition last week at New Heaven, and then making his way into the third round of the US Open at the Flushing Meadows in a comprehensive way.
In an interview after the match, the Fed Express said that he is all set and ready to grab his seventh major trophy of the career. The right-handed player further stated that his quest for the sixth United States Open trophy is on with a perfect start after thrashing out all his opponents in a comprehensive manner in straight sets that also allowed the Swiss to save energy for the deeper stages of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010 in New York.
“It is just an ideal start for me here at the Flushing Meadows. I played my opening match on Monday then took two days off and had another comfortable victory today without much physical exertion and here I am into the third round of the contest and feeling physically and mentally fit to grab another title,” Roger told the reporters after his straight set 6-3 6-4 6-3 victory over Beck on Thursday in a time period of 101 minutes.
Currently ranked number 104 in the world, Andreas Beck made it relatively easier by committing a total of eleven double faults and thirty six unforced errors before he was toppled by Federer on Thursday.
Temperatures in New York have been extremely hot this week; however Roger’s on-court mastery and comfortable draw has allowed him to survive under such brutal conditions as compared to others on the tour.
“I am used to of the conditions as well as the wind here in New York. I have played two matches here, one night, one day so far at the United States Open tennis tournament 2010. Off course, they were not the toughest ones, and I didn’t have to preserve a variety of breakpoints. But still I am quite satisfied with my form and feeling great at the moment. Harder clashes will be coming up now; however I under-estimate none,” said the second seed.
Roger, as a result of this victory, will next meet Paul-Henri Mathieu in the third round of the United States Open tennis tournament in New York. Mathieu made his way into the next round at the Flushing Meadows after outlasting his French tennis foe, Guillaume Rufin in straight sets.
In another action on Thursday, the fifth seeded tennis contender, Robin Soderling also won his second round clash of the US Open 2010 after beating Taylor Dent in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-2, and 6-4.
Robin, who has made his way into the final of the clay court French Open tennis tournament for two consecutive years, required five sets for his first round win in New York. However he had a comparatively easy clash against Dent on Thursday.
Dent, who played in the last year’s US Open tournament after a period of three complete years due to his injury, was knocked down by Andy Murray in straight sets.
This time it was Robin who ended Dent’s US Open campaign in a time period of 92 minutes. Soderling fired a total of fourteen aces in contrast to Dents nine on Thursday.
