US Open 2010: The power ranking points of the bottom three players
With just a couple of weeks left in the US Open 2010, much has already been discussed about the top three favourites to win the title. Therefore, let us discuss the top three players from the bottom half of the list with reference to their latest power ranking points.
8. Robin Soderling
The American tennis ace, Robin Soderling stands at 255 power ranking points. After the grass court Grand Slam tournament this year, Soderling has only participated in a single competition called the Swedish Open event in Bastad. However, he could not perform up to the mark. Moreover, Robin also did not play well at Cincinnati and faced an early exit in the round number one of the tournament as a result.
Looking ahead to the final Grand Slam of the year, the United States Open 2010 championship, the American Robin Soderling will really have to play well in order to knock down some of the in-form top level players in the main draw.
No doubt, he has previously played well on the hard court of the United States of America, with semi finishes at both Indian Wells as well as Miami. Therefore, there is no doubt about the fact that the American has got a great sporting talent in him. He did manage well to scare the Swiss tennis ace, Roger Federer in the US Open tournament back in 2009. Therefore, if Robin plays at his very best, he can make it into the quarterfinals or even semis at the Flushing Meadows.
9. Jurgen Melzer
Melzer with power ranking points of 246 has been one of the busiest players after the grass court Grand Slam tournament this season. He has so far participated in a total of three championships, all on clay surfaces with few victories to his name as well. Jurgen is definitely looking to further improve his world rankings of number fifteen after making his way into his very first major semi final round in Paris.
As far as the upcoming US Open 2010 is concerned, Jurgen looks unlikely to come out at his best in the city of New York.
10. Mardy Fish
The talented professional tennis ace, Mardy Fish who has got the power rankings points of 215 was about to retire back in 2009 as a result of back to back disappointing defeats. However, later on he decided to give it a last try that worked for him and now he seems to have his eyes set on the upcoming US Open title.
Firstly, he grabbed a grass court title in Newport. Mardy then continued his winning momentum and reached the final of the Atlanta Tennis Classic championship few weeks ago and successfully won the title after knocking down his compatriot player, John Isner in a total of three sets. The final match score was 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.
Fish left Los Angeles with sweet memories that also ranked him high in Washington. As far as the upcoming US Open 2010 is concerned, Mardy Fish will definitely enter this time with a higher level of confidence at Flushing Meadows.
Fish’s revival, his health, his form combined with his talent could take the American to his very first Masters trophy this month; however the chances of Flushing meadows still look pretty uncertain.
However, last year the American played poorly prior to the US Open 2009 and as a result did not even participate in the Open. Therefore, a few victories this time in the city of New York will perhaps seem appropriate reward for the hard work of this talented player all through the season 2010.
