US Open 2010; Top three doubtful prospects
The final Grand Slam event of this year, the United States Open is about to begin in the month of August. In this perspective, let us analyze the prospects of some of the players whose performances over the recent past have put them in a doubtful position while keeping in view their statistical criteria’s.
Juan Martin del Potro
The young tennis player from Argentina remains at fifty percent versus his fellow rivals. His only losing track, nevertheless, is versus Djokovic and Murray where as he is minus five versus Federer / Nadal.
Even then many are of the view that the twenty one years old has the flair to be the top class player as he has already grabbed his very first major at the United States back in 2009 versus Federer in the final encounter. Del Potro fought for a total of five sets and returned to triumph versus the defending champ.
However, can the 6'6" Del have the guts to defend his title this season? His strong serves along with the ground strokes are exemplary without any question. His movement on the courts of tennis has also progressed to a great extent back in 2009. Del Potro pushed his game to consistently get better until a wrist casualty shunned him for most of 2010. The Argentina tennis ace however, will not be able to defend his last year crown in the upcoming US Open starting from the month of August so it will be difficult to predict his performance until he returns to the courts of tennis all fit and healthy. However, his name is worth mentioning as he is the defending champion of the US Open Grand Slam tournament back in 2009.
2. Tomas Berdych
The debate is that Berdych has at last found his footing and is a strong prospect to be considered from this perspective. Against the surface, Tomas, who has been contesting in the professional tennis since 2002, finds himself at fifty percent, succeeding and falling down in a total of fifteen matches versus his competitors battling for the hot prospects.
This year has proven to be a breakout season as Tomas regained his spot in the top ten. He met Nadal in the finals of the grass court Grand Slam tournament, falling down in straight sets however it was his very first major final and he battled through Djokovic and Federer to reach the final.
There is no logic to presume his game, his faith, or his prospects to succeed will reduce at this year’s United States Open championship. Tomas certainly has a very healthy chance to take this tournament in 2010.
3. Fernando Verdasco
Fernando Verdasco although does not enjoy a positive success rating versus his peers at the top of the sports. He has succeeded in thirty six percent of his clashes that is fifteen out of forty one.
The twenty six years old Spaniard tennis star has been contesting in the professional game of tennis since 2001. As a result of new coach as well as trainer, Fernando has experienced a tide in his ATP rankings.
It however seems uncertain at the moment that Verdasco has what it takes to make a persistent run versus the top players as Verdasco does not have enough tools to knock down top ranked players on consistent basis.
Moreover, the Spaniard tennis player is suffering from injuries that have further lessened his chances to win the upcoming US Open 2010 held in the city of New York.
Probably the hard court season will restore his game, however according to the experts; Verdasco currently does not seem to be in a position to grab this year’s US Open title.
However, who knows how the Spaniard tennis ace turns out to be when he appears in the final Grand Slam event of this season.
