US Open 2010: Who's going to win this time?
The United States Open tournament is different from other major tennis events in a variety of ways. For starters, it has its own peculiar challenges, it takes places every year under the lights of Flushing Meadows in the city of New York, the tournament is a platform where fantasies to turn into realities and a stage upon which dreams come true.
The pace of the surface at the tournament is simply matchless and tests the strength of a player to a great extent. Winning this crown has satisfied many stars in their careers and has raised many others in terms of their professional sports rankings in the world.
As far as this season’s United States Open tournament is concerned, the unpredictability is high. Therefore this time its likely for the outcome to be a huge surprise for tennis lovers.
The current second ranked Swiss tennis ace, Roger Federer who has won this title on a number of occasions in his career, lost the final last year at the Flushing Meadows. Since then, Federer’s charm has dissipated. He did manage to win the hard court Australian Open title earlier this season, otherwise though, he has not been at his best and as a result has fallen far below his number one ranking in the world.
The Spaniard tennis ace, Rafael Nadal on the other hand who is currently the most successful player of the season, is not very good at playing at the hard courts at the Flushing Meadows. The best performance of his career has been reaching the semi final round of the championship. Moreover, the United States Open tournament is the only major event where both the big guns, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, will not faced each other in the final battle.
In the light of present scenario, the results of this season are a matter of intense curiosity for all. Neither the sports experts nor the analysts can really predict any thing for sure as far as the US Open champion 2010 is concerned.
There is a possibility of a Federer Nadal semi final clash as far as the seeding of the US Open tournament 2010 are concerned which would be a great battle for sure. However, in the case of Federer and Rafa meeting in the semi final round, players such as Robin Soderling, Andy Murray, Del Potro as well as Djokovic will have a supreme chance of reaching the second semi final round of the competition.
For the past few years, there had not been much space for other contenders to reach top sports rankings. This was of course a result of Federer and Nadal, with their outstanding talent and domination on the sport. There have just been a total of two major winners since 2005, namely Juan Del Potro and Novak Djokovic.
However, according to many sports experts, the Federer- Nadal era is reaching its climax, which means that the field is open for others. One aspect that placed Federer and Nadal above the rest has been their attitude and mental strength. These are the traits that took them to the top, but others seem to be learning the secrets to success as well now.
This season, the chances are high for the Flushing Meadows to showcase a new face as the winner of the US Open tournament 2010, which is siad to begin at the end of this month. Having a different champ, some other than Federer or Nadal, will definitely and finally mark the end of their dominating era.
But who knows, the Spaniard Rafael Nadal may complete his Grand Slam deed by capturing the US Open title or Djokovic might strengthen his status by grabbing the trophy? Andy Murray might make it happen this year by ending the long British wait, or Roger Federer might replicate his Ashes performance to win another second major of the season.
Nothing can be said with hundred percent accuracy prior to the tournament, but one thing is for sure; this is going to be an exciting ride.
