US Open 2010 celebrity spectators
In 2010, the US Open tournament seemed like the place to be seen for all and any celebrities. Although it may seem to some that interest in tennis has waned over the past few years, the celeb turn out at this year’s US Open in August and September seems
to reflect exactly the opposite: tennis is becoming the “in” sport to watch, play, and keep up with as well.
Some of pop culture’s best loved celebrities made their way to Flushing Meadows in Queens, New York, this year to be a part of the most anticipated tennis tournament of the season. Here are some of the more famous faces seen at the
USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center this month.
Tennis phenomenas Chris Evert and
Martina Navratilova: Two of the biggest legends in women’s tennis, Evert and Navratilova have worked long and hard to put women’s tennis, and ultimately women’s sports, in a place to be
taken seriously. They were honoured by the USTA before the women’s final at this year’s US Open.
Actor Jeremy Piven: American Jeremy Piven, who plays the legendary Ari Gold on popular TV show Entourage, also attended this year’s US Open. He was lucky enough to watch Rafa make history in
the tournament’s title match. Actor Wilmer Valderrama (That 70s Show actor and host of Yo Momma) was also seen with Piven.
Business Mogul Donald Trump
and his wife, Melanie Trump: Donald Trump is one of the many new fans whom 19 year old Caroline Wozniacki has attracted after her recent high-flying streak of success. She was also one of the favourites to win this year’s
US Open title match, and Donald Trump called especially to request seating in her box at the tournament, which Wozniacki readily provided.
Actress Brooklyn Decker: Arguably the most beautiful wife on the ATP circuit, this young actress showed up at the US Open to support her husband, tennis pro
Andy Roddick.
Francesca Perello and
Ana Maria Nadal: Eventual US Open champion’s mother, Ana Maria Nadal, and his long-time girlfriend, Francesca “Xisca” Perello, were also seen in his box to cheer him on.
Actress Charlize Theron:
The blonde Academy Award winner has been seen at US Open matches in some of the previous tournaments, and this year’s was no exception.
Ellen Degeneres:
Actress, talk show host and g*y rights activist Ellen Degeneres was seen at the US Open in full tennis gear, ensuring that the women’s draw remained accurate.
Fashion Designer Tommy Hilfiger: Couture guru Tommy Hilfiger was also seen at the US Open tournaments this year, making fans wonder what his opinion of the linesmen, ball boys
and girls, and referees’ outfits was; they were designed by his rival, Ralph Lauren.
Actress Kate Walsh:
One of the biggest stars on Grey’s Anatomy, Kate Walsh branched off from the ABC drama to her own show, Private Practice. She was also seen at this year’s US Open tournament matches.
Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour:
A constant supporter of Roger Federer’s, she is often seen in his box at tournaments. Mirka Federer, the Maestro’s wife and former Women’s Tennis Association player herself, is also seen in the box making small talk with fashion legend Wintour.
