US Open 2010: the chances of Roddick, Berdych and Djokovic
With the final Grand Slam, United States Open just around the corner, much has been talked about Nadal and Federer. Now let us discuss some of the other players who have the chances of performing well in the championship if not reaching the final stages and thus entertaining the audiences with their exciting game of tennis. A list of top three contenders is given below:
3. Andy Roddick
Andy Roddick has not performed up to the mark over the last few months. Anyhow, the man without any question has the ability to return strongly. He still has that devilish serve and strong forehand. The serve of the American is definitely one of the best in the championship with an excellent pace and perfect timing. He is also capable of pulling an ace out of his way at critical points in the game. As far as his overall game is concerned, it has definitely upgraded over the past. Moreover, another interesting fact is that, hard courts are the American’s favourite surfaces. Now that grass as well as clay season is over, Roddick is back to his compassionate level so all of his fans are hoping for at the least a single trophy at the hard surface this year. According to the experts, his age is also a factor affecting his game as the man is growing old. However, the man has proved it wrong by straight away winning his opening match in the Atlanta Tennis champion ship that will increase his confidence a great deal. Moreover how can we forget that Roddick is one of two contenders besides the Major Two who are contesting this year and have grabbed a hard surface major.
2. Tomas Berdych
He is among those heavy hitters who have been receiving a lot of praise from the media with the manner he has been fighting against Federer, Rafa as well as some other unfortunate players on all sorts of surfaces. Tomas is also talked about along with Del Potro and Robin Soderling who have familiar styles however he has something they haven't blessed with. He has got more time left as compared to Soderling with a supersonic serve ability that allows him. His game suits the hard surface and he has a definite chance to advance a few more steps on the ladder towards the end of the year. Roddick will meet difficult competitors in the quarters as well as semi final stages in the major championships; however he is surely a player no one wishes to play around the net.
1. Novak Djokovic
Novak climbed up the list this year however once he got close to the top he stumbled a bit. Anyhow, it looks that Novak is now regaining his confidence along with the form. With a majestic game, and a peculiar character that has made him a public figure, it would be really exciting to see him playing on the hard courts of the Flushing Meadows in the city of New York. The man is still quite young and has already grabbed a hard court major title at the Australian Open so we are all hoping to see him back in action in the upcoming US Open. Although, hard surfaces are his favourite ones however he is one of the few players who enjoys an excellent win loss record on all the three courts. If his serve becomes stable, Novak will definitely be back in the group along with Rafa and Roger Federer.
