US Open 2012: Christin Tsai registers her mark in opening round of Women’s Singles event

Canada’s female shuttler Christin Tsai led her country to the pre quarter-finals of Yonex OCBC US Open GPG by overpowering Jamie Subandhi in the opening match on Tuesday, July 3, 2012.
Both Women’s Singles experts battled it out for 42 minutes before concluding this first round match with 21-11, 18-21 and 21-15.
The spirited Canadian players magic prevailed in opening and closing segments of the show while the opposing shuttler could come out of her influence only in second set.
Christin Tsai, who is unseeded in this GP Gold event, proved her point in opening game of the match as she bagged this vital set with a huge difference of ten points in the final margin.
In first half, she established a comfortable lead by dominating four rallies after 3-2 and raised her total to 7-2.
This initial deficit put her rival under great pressure and she looked confused all the way to mid-game break.
On the other hand, Christin relished full benefits of this lead and placed a respectable figure of 11-6 before the interval.
Later part of the game saw her in prime touch as she was everywhere in the court to prove her command over the game. She strengthened her grip with 16-9 before stealing the limelight with a distinctive figure of 21-11.
However, next game gave local crowd something to cheer as Jamie Subandhi managed to bring the contest to the right balance.
The US shuttler was bit cautious in start as she trailed behind until 3-5 but then a couple of fruitful rallies took her to commanding position of 8-5. She did not lose her rhythm and placed a decent total of 11-7 before the one-minute break.
After the interval, she committed few mistakes which resulted in 13-14 score position but Jamie bagged eight out of the ending 12 points to put favourable result of 21-18.
Third and final set was supposed to be nerve-racking contest as both female shuttlers were standing on the same level.
They remained close until 8-8 but then the Canadian campaigner made the difference with four consecutive points. She finished this race with a 21-15 margin.
Now Christin is subjected to a tough trial as her next challenger will be top seeded Taipei shuttler Hsiao Ma Pai in second round of event.
