US Open 2012: Emelie Lennartsson, Emma Wengberg deliver stunner in Women’s Doubles quarter-finals
Sweden’s Emelie Lennartsson and Emma Wengberg enthralled high ranked team of Eva Lee-Paula Lynn Obanana to surge into the semi-finals of Yonex OCBC US Open GPG on July 5, 2012.
This quarter-final tussle remained in full swing for 62 minutes and both teams put all in their possession while piling up final result of 16-21, 21-10 and 14-21.
The local female shuttlers Eva Lee and Paula Lynn, who were ranked three in this event, disappointed their supporters by losing in a disgraceful manner.
Meanwhile, the Swedish duo broke their limits and touched the zenith of their game in the opening and closing segments of the match.
Now they will be up against top seeded Japanese pair Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi in the second last round of this Grand Prix Gold tournament.
Emelie and Emma will go all-out to prove their point against the world class shuttlers like they did in the quarter-final match.
They set the ball rolling straight away in the first set as they pocketed opening match point with a distinctive difference.
Though, it was an uphill task for them to stand tall against double trouble of local shuttlers and the crowd but still they managed to keep their head high.
They matched their opponent’s skills in first half of the set and gained a slight advantage in 11-10 total.
After the interval, Emelie and Emma strengthened their grip with three uninterrupted rallies and then stamped their supremacy by bagging the ending six points of 21-15 margin.
However, Eva Lee and Paula Lynn showed their magical coordination in the following game as they counter-balanced the situation by clinching second set of the match.
World Number 29 duo laid foundation of their dominance with four consecutive points which helped them to finish the first half with 11-6 score.
The US shuttlers did not show mercy in later part of the game and snatched 10 out of ending 14 points to place decisive figure of 21-10.
This win aroused the hopes of audience as they started celebrating in the stands but the Swedish team silenced them with a powerful knock.
Emelie and Emma ruled the court in most part of the decider and locked the honour with 21-14 margin on the board.
