US Open 2012: Hsiao Ma dominates Christin Tsai in Women’s Singles pre quarter-finals
Women’s Singles expert Pai Hsiao Ma got permission to proceed in the Yonex OCBC US Open GPG after intercepting Christin Tsai in pre quarter-finals on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
This 66-minute fight was staged in Orange County Badminton Club (OCBC) and both contenders fought hard while piling up final figures of 21-16, 25-27 and 21-7.
The Taipei lady locked the honour by stealing the opening and closing segments while Christin Tsai could only perform well in the middle part of the match.
World Number 27 shuttler Hsiao Ma has fair chances to make into semi-finals as she will be up against a lower ranked contender Phyllis Chan in the quarter-final round.
Earlier in second round match, she had a sluggish start in first set and kept trailing behind her rival all the way to half time.
Christin Tsai started the ball rolling straight away in the beginning when she prevailed in four consecutive rallies.
After 4-2 score position, she added seven consecutive points in her total to reach at a dominating position of 11-2.
However, her supremacy was short lived as Hsiao Ma counter-balanced the situation right after the interval.
She made a great comeback by gathering 11 points without any interruption. She did not lose this rhythm and passed this tough test with a distinctive margin of 21-16.
The second set proved to be the best part of the match as both ladies snapped each other’s heels and neither of them could make notable difference all the way to game point situation.
In first half, the Canadian shuttler matched her competitor’s skills and managed to stay close until mid-game break.
Christin Tsai, who was underrated earlier in this event, proved her mettle by putting up a decent total of 11-10 before the announcement of the break.
Though, she lost grip in third quarter of the game but still she remained toe-to-toe in final part of this crucial set.
The Taipei campaigner played her heart out to seal a straight-set victory but Christin turned her plan into dust by registering a favourable figure of 27-25.
Unexpectedly, the decider turned to a flat contest as Hsiao Ma completely outclassed her opponent in all areas of game and wrapped the show with 14-point lead in 21-7 score.
