US Open 2013’s men final to be contested on the eve of Monday – Tennis News
Weather interrupted delays in the US Open tournament at the New York City have forced the officials to make changes to the schedule for the next edition. Earlier this year, the matches at the year’s final Grand Slam event were
interrupted by rain, forcing delays and that had happened for the fifth consecutive year which pushed the organizers to consider a valuable change in the finals of both ATP and WTA.
In the US Open 2013, the final between the two successful finalists in the Women Tennis Association category will be contested on the eve of Sunday instead of Saturday. Similarly, the men’s final has been shifted a day ahead from
its normal schedule and it will take place on the eve of Monday.
However, one thing is to be kept in mind that the changes approved by the committee will not be finalized for every other edition of the tournament. It will be tested in 2013 and the response from all the related authorities will
be incorporated in deciding about the schedule of the US Open 2014.
Good news reported by the US Tennis Association was the improvement in the prize money of the tournament. They will be adding around $4 million to the next year’s prize money pool of the tournament and that will take the total
to 29.5 million dollars.
This year’s winner of the US Open tournament, the number one Briton Andy Murray, was pleased to hear the changes in the schedule. He stated, “I'm pleased that the USTA has modified the US Open schedule to include a day of rest
between the semi-finals and final. Together with the prize money increase, it's good that they've taken on board the players' concerns.”
No changes are to be made for the rest of the schedule. Semi-Final for women will be contested on the eve of Friday and last four men in the tournament will lock horns a day after. However, the day gap will help the two successful
women finalists to have a rest in between two gruelling encounters and prepare better for the last battle.
