Some of the top line tennis professionals were eliminated from the US Open earlier this week. Roddick’s temperament issues didn’t let him get far while Azarenka quite clearly, was not fit to play further as she suffered a mild concussion and collapsed during her second round match.

The American Venus Williams went head to head with Canada’s Rebecca Marino and the two remained evenly matched as they were tied up in the first set. However, it was Williams who eventually bagged the set 7-6 on a tie break while Rebecca seemed to have demoralized then as she performed horribly in the second set and also lost the final set three games to six.
Defending champion Kim Clijsters was lucky enough to have been scheduled for a night match against Aussie, Sally Peers. Not having to worry about the scorching sun and the intense heat, Clijsters took the first set 6-2 and verily went on to win the second one 6-1, to make a place for herself in the third round.
Frenchman Gael Monfils showed Russia’s Igor Andreev what he’s all about as he took the first set of his second round match, six games to three. Andreev was incapable of reciprocating and also lost the second set four games to six. The deal was sealed right when Monfils took the deciding third set, six games to three, only to breeze through to the next round.
A player with limitless potential, Sweden’s Robin Soderling went up against the American Taylor Dent. Dent was made to face defeat on his home-ground as Soderling bagged a straight set win against him. The American lost 2-6, 2-6 and 4-6 to the Swede.
However, not all American professionals proved to be useless as James Blake managed to make it through to the third round by defeating Canada’s Peter Polansky. Despite losing the first set six games to seven, Blake bounced back and took the remaining three sets 6-3, 6-2 and 6-4 to win the match.
Amongst these sportspeople, were assortments of professionals that also came out victorious in their second round matches and are set to compete in the round to follow.
