US Open GP Gold 2012: Chetan Anand punishes Lucas Alves Pinto in Men’s Singles first round
India’s out of form shuttler Chetan Anand showed his tremendous skills in Men’s Singles first round of US Open GP Gold when he punished Lucas Alves Pinto of Brazil in a smashing manner on Monday, July 2, in Los Angeles.
Chetan, who has been seeded at number eight in Men’s Singles main draw of US Open, finally found a good rhythm as he showed a phenomenal performance on court and easily trounced his Brazilian opponent in a commanding manner.
The higher ranked Indian shuttler was in full swing as he played flawless badminton all the way against his un-seeded rival and eventually won the match in a lopsided manner with a huge difference on the score board.
On the other hand, Lucas could not show up his brilliance as he was no match to his higher ranked rival. He could control the pace of rallies in the entire contest and lost the battle in straight games in just 19 minutes without impressing the local fans.
The contest remained interesting but only for a few minutes until the score reached at 4-4. At this stage, the Indian took over the control of rallies and started to prove his supremacy on court by dictating the pace.
Until the mid-game interval in this opening round contest, Chetan was progressing with a huge advantage of 11-6 on the score board.
After the break, Chetan continued toppling his rival by manipulating all of his loopholes. The impressive speed and perfect shot placement of Chetan created the big difference between both shuttlers. He took the opening game easily with an authoritative
difference of 21-12.
The second game was almost identical where Chetan again took a wonderful lead by playing with aggression. He was ahead on the board at 11-7 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the Indian stretched the gap by playing powerful smashes and well place semi-smashes which helped him to bag the second game with a striking 21-11 score on the board.
The Indian boy showed his brilliance on court and won the Men’s Singles first round contest easily with a staggering margin of 21-12 and 21-11.
