US Open GP Gold: Joachim Persson sends Andrew D’Souza packing in Men’s Singles second round
Denmark’s Joachim Persson stamped his supremacy on court when he powered his way into Men’s Singles round-of-16 after crushing Canada’s Andrew D’Souza in second round encounter at OCBC US Open GP Gold 2012 at Los Angeles, USA, on Tuesday, July 3.
The experienced Persson, who is 13th seeded player in Men’s Singles draw of the championship, left all of his bad memories behind and continued his winning run as he thrashed D’Souza without losing any set.
The higher ranked Persson has been struggling hard to earn a breakthrough at international stage for the last couple of years. However, he put up staggering performance against the un-seeded D’Souza in straight sets with a comfortable margin.
On the other hand, the lower ranked D’Souza could not prove his mettle as he had nothing to disturb the flow of his Danish opponent throughout the contest and lost it in two games in just 23 minutes.
Persson started his run in a controlled and dominating manner as he played attacking badminton from rear court and also showed a wonderful deception in the front court.
The perfect shot placement and fast movement of Persson earned him a huge advantage over his Canadian rival and he reached at 11-5 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Persson played to his maximum potential and he did not slow down the pace of rallies at any stage. He was on a different level on court and bagged the first game with a thrashing margin of 21-12.
The following game was absolutely thrilling in opening rallies when D’Souza also put up strong resistance by taking the bird early and also won points with his impressive smashes.
However, the experienced Dane controlled the pace by keeping the bird low from net and took a good lead of 11-7 until the break.
Persson continued his power play after the one-minute interval and pushed his Canadian challenger on back foot. He was everywhere on court and managed to take the game with a margin of 21-16.
Persson overpowered D’Souza in an authoritative manner with a comfortable 21-12 and 21-16 score on the board.
