US Open GP Gold: Kaori Imabeppu sends Nicole Grether packing in Women’s Singles quarter-final
Kaori Imabeppu, the aggressive shuttler from Japan, showed her incredible skills and registered a comprehensive victory over Canada’s Nicole Grether in Women’s Singles quarter-final battle at OCBC US Open GP Gold 2012 on Thursday, July 5, in USA.
Imabeppu has been impressive in all of her matches in US Open and continued her staggering run in the quarter-final match against her un-seeded Canadian opponent and easily got success in an emphatic fashion.
The in-form Imabeppu tamed Nicole by playing remarkable badminton in the whole contest and easily won the match in straight games by a stunning margin on the board in just 34 minutes.
On the contrary, the Canadian failed to live up to expectations on court despite having huge support of local crowd. She could not maintain her speed and also executed wrong strokes against her impressive opponent and lost to her in straight sets.
Nicole played good badminton in opening rallies of first game and also restricted her rival on score board by playing attacking badminton.
However, the Japanese lady was also adept in executing her shots in right areas and she managed an 11-9 lead until the end of first half.
After the break, the Imabeppu changed her tactics and played at her best speed. She was dominating the game at net by executing spinning shots and also earned points with her well placed smashes.
The Japanese shuttler was impressive in her movement on court and took the first game with a comfortable score of 21-14.
The following game was a nightmare for the Canadian shuttlers as her Japanese opponent played at her best speed and took a staggering lead until the end of first half by reaching at 11-2.
Nicole failed to even resist on court as she could not take the bird early and also struggled to return the well executed strokes of her rival.
In the meanwhile, Imabeppu continued her flawless performance in the concluding half of second game against her confused opponent and eventually grabbed the game with a sensational margin of 21-4.
The in-form Imabeppu wrapped up victory in this quarter-final battle in straight games with a thrashing 21-14 and 21-4 score on the board.
