US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012: Iris Wang finds staggering start in Women’s Singles first round
Iris Wang, a budding shuttler from USA, proved her lofty class on court as she found a perfect start in Women’s Singles first round when she crushed Marie Waland of Norway at the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Los Angeles, on Tuesday, July 3.
Iris provided a wonderful entertainment to her home fans by playing tremendous badminton against her Norwegian rival and gave her a severe lesson by ending up the battle in just 19 minutes.
The local shuttler was flawless in her game plan and also executed her shots in right areas. She did not spare any chance to Waland and wrapped up a spectacular victory with in straight games with a remarkable difference on the score board.
Waland, in the meanwhile, could not do much while playing against her local opponent and easily bowed down to her in two games with a one-sided margin.
In the first game, both shuttlers played to their full potential in opening rallies to take an early lead but none of them could manage it until the score reached at 9-9.
At this stage, Iris played slightly better badminton and managed a slight lead of 11-9 until the end of opening half.
After the break, Iris geared up her speed and troubled her rival by executing fast drop shots and also employed powerful smashes on both sides of her rival.
The aggressive and positive play of Iris helped her to take advantage in the match by grabbing the first game with a stunning score of 21-11.
In the second set, Iris entertained her home fans by playing on a completely different level as she showed no mercy to her Norwegian rival and established a staggering lead of 11-3 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Iris remained on track while playing to her maximum potential and did not let her challenger to close the gap. She was in full swing on court and took the second game with a lopsided score of 21-8.
Iris won her first match in her home event with a stunning 21-11 and 21-8 score on the board.
