US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012: Nicole Grether ousts Hsin Yun Chang at Women’s Singles round-of-16
Canada’s in-form player Nicole Grether continues her staggering performance on court as she secured her spot in Women’s Singles top-eight stage after ousting Chinese Taipei’s Hsin Yun Chang in round-of-16 clash at the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
at Los Angeles, USA, on Wednesday, July 4.
By winning the pre-quarter-final battle, the spirited Nicole proved that her previous victories were not a fluke and that she has achieve a certain level of skills to establish her worth in the arena.
In the meanwhile, Hsin Yun also showed her class and kept her rival moving around in all corners. However, she failed to make a good use of her impressive shots in final set and lost the contest to Nicole in three games with a comfortable margin.
The Canadian lady started her campaign in a calm and collected manner as she showed no sign of confusion while playing against her Taipei rival who also remained closely behind on score board.
However, Nicole did not let Hsin Yun to level the score at any stage and took a small lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Nicole continued her focused and controlled play and she did not make any mistakes all the way to grab the set with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second game, Hsin Yun became aggressive and maintained the pace of rallies until the end of opening half when both ladies were close on board.
After the break, both shuttlers continued their positive run without dropping their speed. It was Nicole who reached at 17-16 when she lost her focus and conceded five points in a row to lose the game with a margin of 17-21.
In the decider, Nicole showed her incredible craft from the starting points and managed her upper hand over Hsin Yun until the break.
After the interval, Canadian lady continued her better performance and took the set easily with a 10-point advantage by ending it up with a 21-11 score on the board.
Nicole took 43 minutes to oust Hsin Yun in a thrilling rubber-set contest with a stunning margin of 21-16, 17-21 and 21-11.
