US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012: Vladimir Ivanov storms into Men’s Singles quarter-final
Russia’s experienced shuttler Vladimir Ivanov showed his hard-to-learn craft on court and stormed into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating Chinese Taipei’s Yu Hsien Lin in round-of-16 showdown at OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Wednesday, July
4, in Los Angeles.
The third seeded Ivanov continued his straight-set victories in all of his matches at US Open by toppling Yu Hsien in similar fashion in just 35 minutes on court.
The higher ranked Russian shuttler had to work hard in first game and he managed to wrap it up with a close score. However, he did not let his rival to come in his way of glory by punishing him with a huge margin in the second set and won the match in two
games in an emphatic fashion.
On the contrary, Yu Hsien failed to produce killing form as he could not display his elevated skills in the ending points of first set and also failed to dictate the pace in following game against his higher ranked rival. He lost this pre-quarter-final battle
in two games with a reasonable margin.
The first set showed one of the best fights of the day when both shuttlers put up tremendous show and grabbed the attention of local crowd with their attacking play.
The un-seeded Yu Hsien gave a wonderful fight to his Russian rival and remained close until 8-8 when he conceded three consecutive points and remained at 8-11 until the break.
After the interval, the Taipei shuttler again showed his remarkable skills and levelled the score at 11-11.
Both men progressed at an equal pace in the concluding half and the score reached at 19-19 when Ivanov managed to grab two consecutive points and bagged the game with a margin of 21-19.
In the second set, Yu Hsien again played at his best speed and refused his rival any advantage until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Ivanov geared up his speed and controlled the pace of rallies by taking the bird early. He remained successful in snatching the second game from Yu Hsien with a margin of 21-14.
Ivanov won this Men’s Singles round-of-16 encounter in straight sets by taking 35 minutes with a convincing score of 21-19 and 21-14.
