US Open Grand Prix Gold: Joachim Persson tames Yau Hwa Chan to surge into Men’s Singles second round
Denmark’s talented player Joachim Persson started his dominating run as he easily tamed Yau Hwa Chan of USA in Men’s Singles first round at the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold on Monday, July 2, in USA.
The left-handed Joachim, who is 13th seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the tournament, put up staggering show and easily registered a sensational victory over his local opponent.
The higher ranked Danish player was calm and collected in the court as he played with impressive confidence and easily thrashed Yau Hwa in straight games by working on court for just 19 minutes.
Yau Hwa, who was having the advantage of home crowd, failed to respond well to his fans as he could not show his skills against his experienced opponent and lost the battle in straight sets with a one-sided score.
Persson was a bit relaxed in opening rallies of first game and also played somewhat sluggish badminton which helped his rival to take a small lead at initial stage.
However, the Danish shuttler found his flow and became quick in taking the bird early and made the score levelled by reaching at 8-8.
Until the 60-second break, the higher ranked Danish player was progressing ahead on the board with a margin of 11-9.
After the one-minute break, Persson showed his class when he created trouble for his opponent while keeping the pace of rallies high and eventually took the first game with a tremendous 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game, Persson continued his commanding play on court as he did not let Yau Hwa to match the pace of rallies this time and took an 11-6 lead until the mid-game break.
After the 60-second interval, the Danish hero remained in wonderful control and he did not commit unforced errors which helped him to maintain pressure on his local opponent.
The in-form Persson managed to take the second game with a lopsided margin of 21-12.
Persson proved too strong for Yau Hwa as he easily ended up the first round clash with a stunning 21-14 and 21-12 score on the board.
