US Open Grand Prix Gold: Nicholas Jinadasa overpowers Calvin Lin in Men’s Singles first round
Nicholas Jinadasa, a spirited player from USA, put up superb show and entertained his home fans by beating his compatriot Calvin Lin in Men’s Singles first round at the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold on Monday, July 2, in Los Angeles.
The in-form Jinadasa employed all of his reserves to overwhelm his talented team-mate and managed to win the battle after working extra hard for 37 minutes.
Jinadasa played well in opening game and won it with a tight score but failed to prove his mettle in the second set and lost it with a reasonable margin. However, he was everywhere on court and bagged the final game easily to register a sensational victory
over his country-mate.
In the meanwhile, Calvin was also impressive in his shot placement and game plan but he failed to drag his rival into his strategy and lost to him with a comfortable score on the board.
In the first game, it was Jinadasa who showed his elevated class in the court and managed to take a wonderful lead of 11-6 until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Calvin showed his brilliance and defied all odds against him to make the score levelled at 17-17.
At this crucial stage, Jinadasa controlled his nerves and played safe badminton which helped him to grab the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
In the second game, it was Calvin who was on driving seat this time as he showed his aggression in the court and managed to take a reasonable lead until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Jinadasa injected more power into his shots but failed to stop his gritty opponent and lost the set with a margin of 18-21.
In the decider, Jinadasa was calm and collected on court as he made no mistake this time and took an early lead.
The impressive Jinadasa continued showing his positive skills all the way to clinch the deciding set with a smashing 21-12 score on the board.
Jinadasa emerged as the winner against Calvin in this Men’s Singles first round with an entertaining margin of 22-20, 18-21 and 21-12.
