US Open Men’s Competition 2010: Preview of the first round matches - Part 2
The Flushing Meadows in the city of New York this season will feature a total of one hundred and twenty seven matches in the first round of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010. Let us have a look at the next ten matches of the round 1, to be played in New York.
1. Qualifier versus Pere Riba
Riba is going to play his very first United States Open tennis tournament this year at the Flushing Meadows. Therefore the qualifier enjoys an advantage over him who will play his first round match of the US Open tennis tournament after participating in at least few of the matches at the Flushing Meadows earlier this week.
2. Fabio Fognini versus Fernando Verdasco
This is not an ideal draw for Fernando who recently was knocked down by Fognini in a four-setter clash at the grass court Grand Slam tournament. The Italian also recently claimed an upset win over world number twenty nine Radek Stepanek on the hard surface at the Rogers Cup tennis tournament earlier this month. Verdasco, who made his way into the quarters back in 2009 stands at 7-0 in the first round matches at the United States Open tennis tournament. However, he had triumphed in six straight first-round clashes at the All England Club before being taken down at the hands of Fognini. Fognini definitely enjoys a slight edge over Verdasco.
3. Andy Murray versus Lukas Lacko
The 2010 Rogers Cup winner has triumphed in a total of ten opening round matches in a row at the major events and is highly favoured to take down Lukas in their first round clash in New York.
4. Dustin Brown versus Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo
Brown stands at a career 2-1 as far as hard surfaces are concerned where as Ramirez-Hidalgo; his first round opponent is 4-20 and is likely to fall down at the hands of Brown in straight sets.
5. Yen-Hsun Lu versus Juan Ignacio Chela
Lu continued his impressive run to the quarterfinal of the grass court Grand Slam tournament with a round of sixteen finish at the Rogers Cup tennis tournament in Toronto and is likely to beat Chela in their opening round clash at the US Open 2010.
6. Stanislas Wawrinka versus Mikhail Kukushkin
Kukushkin is a major rookie, whereas Wawrinka has made his way into the fourth round of the Grand Slam tournament on five different occasions so far in his career, including twice at the Flushing Meadows and has brighter chances in his opening match as well.
7. Sam Querrey versus Bradley Klahn
The twenty ranked American tennis ace Sam Querrey, who has grabbed a total of four trophies this season, including two on hard surfaces, won’t be having any problem against his compatriot opponent Bradley who is ranked number 507 in the world by ATP and came here in New York as a wild card entrant.
8. Andreas Seppi versus Marcel Granollers
Seppi ousted Granollers in straight sets on the clay of Bastad this year, which implies that the Spaniard who in spite of holding a better record on clay lost at the hands of Andreas will be having a tough time once again in the opening round match of the final Grand Slam of the season.
9. Lukasz Kubot versus Guillermo Garcia-Lopez
Kubot has made his way at least into the third round of his career hard court Grand Slam tournaments and Guillermo will have to play exceptionally well in order to beat him in the opening match of the US Open 2010.
10. Nicolas Almagro versus Potito Starace
The fourteen ranked tennis ace from the men’s side Nicolas Almagro has triumphed in his last four clashes with Potito, including their only matchup on the hard surface at the ATP Series in Miami back in 2007. Therefore, he is likely to get the better of Potito in straight sets.
